Anyone else so tired of ageism at work?

Fine, go tell black women and people in wheelchairs to stop complaining and “embrace” themselves too. Some of you just don’t understand that age discrimination IS discrimination.

Everyone gets old. Therein lies the difference.

This is industry specific. In law, the older you are, the more respected and revered you are. I think the same holds true for medicine. You're in a "young" field. You get the basic framework for your industry but your younger co-workers have their ear to the street and are more social media savvy, something that is crucial in marketing.

My company does zero TV commercials, we do zero physical post office ads, do zero print ads, we don’t have an 800 number to call or a website to sign up.

Gen Z don’t watch TV, open mail, make phone calls or use websites. We are now focusing on Gen Alpha. Really pushing for people born in 2010s. Most people in world don’t even speak English.

To be honest a 25 year old white English speaking marketing person is an old women out of touch to a 12 year old customer in India.

They should fire everyone in marketing over 27 you are out of touch

So I notice you didn't mention anything about a 25 year old white man or black man or POC

So not only are you ageist you are sexist and racist

Black straight men are smart enough not to work in marketing the gay white men well I guess if they can’t get a job in fashion.

You be surprised at spending power kids. We got kids 12-18 who spend thousands each month. My own 16 year old daughters friend has a $1,000 a week allowance.

It’s only in medicine and law that ageism isn’t rampant. Probably has to do with boards and bar being set by old people as gate keepers.

What is a creative agency? Is that a creative way to say ad agency?

OP, if you have all that experience in the industry, how is this in any way bothering you? Where were you when the same exact thing happened with Millennials? Advertising caters to the same age bracket and that age bracket always 1) thinks they invented everything cool and 2) thinks that older people are lame. They just use different slang. This should not be news.

I feel like millennials were different. There, the spotlight was on ‘causes’ and entire generations were not dismissed. In fact I think millennials started the trend you see come to fruition now with an embracing of gray hair etc - of redefining age parameters. Gen z are just like the pastiche of the vacuous valley girl but en masse and throwing collective shade at anyone who dares to have lived longer than 35 years and has the jeans to show for it

No, it is because in these types of fields the demographic receiving the service specifically seeks out, and will pay top dollar for length of experience because they think it yields better results.

Don’t say that at work.

Why do you assume this? Based on her age?

Who cares what GenZ says. They are boring, socially awkward, lazy, and they wear hideous clothes.

There is definitely ageism in medicine, courtesy of our administrative overlords. Young doctors are cheaper than experienced doctors, and the admins try to drive out the older docs in big hospital systems. Johns Hopkins has really ramped this up in the past 5 years.

The ironic thing, of course, is that the young docs tend spend more money on patient care (unnecessary testing, lab work, etc). They older docs also help the younger ones out. It’s disconcerting to practice in a group where the “senior” doctor has only 5 years of experience. But our administrative overlords only look at the simple salary numbers.

We just discussed this yesterday among a few of us old people in IT.

A big project just failed, the “old people” were brought in to a meeting to discuss “lessons learned”.

We had documentation of risks we told the young ones about that they ignored… because they knew better.

This is 30 something vs 50 something’s.

Sometime you just have to let them fail.

WTH is a 12-14 spending thousands on per month? Let alone older teens. Not the GenZ kids I have and know. This is not a priority to the vast majority of them. Millennials maybe, when they were younger.

I find this so sad you’re bragging about this kind of behavior.
