It not more prestigeous at all, especially for CS.

Overall not just for one major. The GT boosters on this site are crazy. GaTech is ranked 44...FOURTY FOUR! It is not a top school. Northeastern is also a top school for CS and Babson for business but they aren't top schools Overall. UVA os the better option especially since it costs less.

GT is essentially 2 schools. Engineering programs have long been word class. My wife chose to do her undergrad in mechanical engineering there over several Ivies, Duke, and Hopkins. The rest of the school is top 50 calibur but not elite. They are committed to having their CS eventually be on par with the engineering programs. If im going for business UVA is the choice. Engineering or CS and its GT everytime as long as the kid can handle it

CS is a degree where a top 25 school is just as good salary wise as the top 25 for the major. There's not much salary premium for CS. UVA is the better school, major rank does not matter for undergrad other than business. Go with prestige.

I’m eager to hear what the tech hiring people say about this. The UVA prestige posters seem clueless.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You can’t possibly work in this field.

It’s been stated here many times by hiring managers that they have staff from Vt, UVA, GMU and others and they all start the same salary.

UVA is not the more prestigious school in STEM.

+1, DC is turning into Twitter with the misinformation.

UVA is not the more prestigious school in STEM.

Clearly doesn't need to be, just needs to be prestigious in general.

GT is not Carnegie Mellon or MIT. It's a 2nd tier public, which is still very good but isn't the UCB ,UCLA, UVA, UMich level.

The "prestige" hounds are beyond insufferable.

Then why go to UVA. Just go to VT or GMU. It's easier to get into, and cheaper.

It isn't in general either.

The only thing UVA is good for is babysitting rich kids who want to get drunk and party hard all weekend. They are prestigious for party school

So does GT. People don’t seem to understand that excellent “tech” schools often have excellent liberal arts too. Good professors are attracted by good schools.
NP

GT is an engineering school. The Ivan Allen liberal arts college at GT has something like 10 majors, all B.S. degrees with math/science requirements. So if your kid “pivots” there, they’re not going to be a sociology major.

That said, my student chose GT over UVA and is happy with the choice. GT’s co-op & internship programs for engineers are phenomenal. UVA isn’t comparable in that regard.
