Georgia Tech CS vs UVA CS-Eng

I'm a CIO in NOVA at a software company. We recruit directly from UMD Masters, we hire immediately GT candidates. UVA to be honest is not in our recruiting pool though I think the school is good.

UVA is not the more prestigious school in STEM.

Clearly doesn't need to be, just needs to be prestigious in general.

It isn't in general either.

No dog in this fight. But can't think of anymore undergrad rankings.

Apples to oranges. The thing you guys have in common is that you don’t understand what kind of school GT is. It’s like saying you want to be a submarine captain but you’re going to go to Penn-Wharton because it’s higher ranked than the Naval Academy.

In what it emphasizes, GT is better than UVA in almost all fields.

No it's not, a sub captain is very niche. CS is not and can be taught anywhere. Intact those faang companies your kids want so bad don't even require degrees anymore, just certs.

GT is a niche school. Those of you who only care about rankings are going to be very surprised by your GT rejection.

and you are showing your ignorance. Do you know anyone who attends currently, or have you spent any time on grounds recently? I was just there and was very pleasantly surprised by the diversity everywhere. My DD attends and her friends come from all backgrounds, rich, poor, white, non-white, LGBTQ etc. There are 15K kids there, yes a small group will be down at the frats dartying on Saturdays but anyone can find a group here if they make half an effort. Given how hard it is to get in nowadays, these are not people who have been partying their whole lives, they could not and still get in. They are driven, sometimes competitive, career minded people who want to be successful and will be.

So why do you think a niche school raked 44 is better than a comprehensive one ranked 25?

You’re in a thread about computer science.

+1 UVA boosters don't seem to understand that when it comes to CS, UVA isn't Top 20.

CS rankings:

GA Tech #4
UVA #43 (even VT is higher ranked than UVA)

My son is a professor at UVA in the department of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I guess based on the ranking, he is also an inferior faculty than those at GT.

What a weird, personal post. Faculty positions are hard to get everywhere and Rhodes scholars are teaching at schools with 90% acceptance rates. This is not about you or your son.
