I’m so glad you don’t live in Nazi Florida. Whew!

I’m a Floridian, born and raised. Any true conservative would see the problem with his bans and government overreach.

Sorry, I live in Florida too and I love DeSantis.

Yep DeSantis does not have much appeal outside of Florida.

Who wants this mind numbing focus on trans people and banning books. It is all trying way too hard and is so dull and unimportant.

Agree. Trump is going to destroy him anyway. He, like every other right wing politician, cannot stand up to the blistering attacks by Trump.

Why aren’t students protesting about this illegal privacy breach?

The article says that in addition to the records they want ages of the patient and the dates they received treatment. Gender dysphoria has both a DSM diagnosis (for counseling) and an ICD 10 diagnosis (for medical issues) so I'm not clear if the records are being pulled from the counseling center, the medical center, or both.

Insider has confirmed that University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Central Florida, Florida A&M University, Florida International University, and the University of North Florida have complied with the request, but has yet to hear back from the rest.

I suspect they're going to try to pass a law(?) that public university funds from free counseling/medical services can't be used to treat gender dysphoria/provide gender affirming care. I don't get how turning over medical records is legal. When I was a counselor, those records included session notes.

Maybe we shouldn't have public funded eduction or medical care?

DeSantis is very popular in the south. He is less focused on trans and books than is portrayed in left wing media. He is much more focused on business and immigration, which makes him popular. Most people just dont think often about trans issues outside of sports, so its not a huge winning political issue like immigration.

My mom is a conservative in FL and really dislikes DeSantis. She wants Tim Scott. But Tim Scott is never on the national scene. At least DeSantis lets us see him and evaluate him.

DeSantis is telling you and me and your mom and Tim Scott that he’s an authoritarian dictator and everybody should pay attention.

Yes, Florida really seems to be struggling under the Christofascist boot of DeSantis. Everyone is fleeing, the state is shrinking, and refugees from Florida are appearing all over.

That is a massive violation of health privacy laws and a severe breach of trust by state government.

It can’t be legal. Also, this type of thing just goes to show that the debate about transgender kids is in fact, not about kids. It’s about all transgender people.

LOL. Sure you are.

And, once again.... this thread has been started on a false assumption (nothing new around here).
DeSantis has nothing to do with what FHSAA was proposing.... and must be repeated.... IS NO LONGER PLANNING TO DO.

And let's not forget the Florida period police proposals.

It's not even about targeting trans, it's about control - specifically over anyone who isn't a straight Christian male.

It can’t be legal. Also, this type of thing just goes to show that the debate about transgender kids is in fact, not about kids. It’s about all transgender people.

This just isn't true. He's incredibly focused on it, and it's apparent in the schools and how our kids are learning, or not, in Florida.
