This one individual who is obsessed with this issue is obviously going to pollute this entire thread and pretend to be multiple individuals if he needs to. He is obviously unbalanced and obsessed both with this issue and haunting DCUM. Makes it almost impossible to get an objective read on the issue at this site. I’d just ask some people who live there. You’ll probably get the same read I did - that it’s not that big a deal |
Looking over this thread I’m pretty sure this obsessed individuals posts make up well over half of the posts, pretending to be different people, discussing with himself, etc. This persons arguments make little sense on their face because MOST of the DC area, not just Foxhall/Palisades, is within a few miles of the approach path to DCA. It makes no sense for the effects he is discussing to be highly localized to the small neighborhood he is obsessed with |
To each their own. At least now you know |
How about other nearby neighborhoods that are a little farther from the river — Bannockburn, Wood Acres, Springfield, Kenwood Park, Woodhaven, etc.
Are those ok or does the plane noise and pollution affect them too? |
Not sure it’s him but there is a annoying realtor who could never afford the “airplane noise” neck of the woods who loudly complains about it (in social settings). Dont live there but have always thought that person’s issues were pure sour grapes. |
Do you mean the guy who runs @palisadesn and that everyone on the local listserve was thanking for the last few days for everything he’s done to help the residents with, and I quote, “unbearable” plane noise?
I mean, honestly, you can only gaslight so much. Everyone can see and hear the planes. What they don’t know first hand is how awful it is when the windows shake and the only sleep is between 1am and 4am. It’s in the WAMU article. None of it is my personal subjective opinion. And there are several posters not that it matters. |
Speaking of dcum, previously the people talking about the plane noise were accused of being bitter because of some University Terrace guy stealing their girlfriend. Bonkers. There’s a low flying plane every 90 seconds is the truth. |
It’s house by house and could change. Best to pull up workday 8am and time and measure dB. And read the pollution study. I can’t imagine it’s not better than the Palisades but don’t know. |
I guess we answered the OP’s question. The objective answer is NO.
The subjective answer is whatever you want it to be. There are people who don’t want to know let alone fix their radon levels despite knowing there’s no safe level. They say radon is everywhere. It is still terrible for you in your own house. Ditto the Palisades Plane Defense League. |
This is a quote from another current thread apropos a different real estate issue; but is the best ever and could have saved us 4 pages of back and forth:
“so you want to punk someone into buying your nightmare?” 😂 |
OP here. Thanks very much for all of the answers. I hope this will be a useful thread for readers in the future trying to understand what the situation is like.
For my part, I spent ~6 hours in the neighborhood today. I spoke with a lot of neighbors and folks walking around / in GEH. Nobody I met seems to have had any issues with it and most called it "background noise". I wasn't very bothered even as someone with much worse than average misophonia. |
LOL the objective answer is NO it’s not that bad but also there is no way in hell you are going to stop Airplane Noise Fanatic Guy from shitting up every DCUM thread about the Palisades with it. |
It's so strange to me that people are willing to spend $2 million or more to live in this neighborhood without spending many hours, at different times of day, to determine whether this will be an issue for them. There isn't some gate blocking access. Park your car, walk around, and listen. Noise affects different people in different ways. Talking with current residents is useless; they have every incentive to act like it's a non-issue when asked by outsiders. |
I lived in Old Town for years and the jet noise was noticeable. But the 737-8 etc and the Airbus 319/320’s today are much quieter than the 727’s that used to fly into DCA.
If you have ever lived next to a Naval Air Station or an Air Force base with multiple wings of fighters you would know what real jet noise it. |
This. The last sentence is gold. |
