We were seated in a booth by the window and in less than a minute there were about 65 high schoolers flooding the restaurant.

First, I am a POC. Second, I grew up in not a great area of Philly so I’m not easily frightened and I’ve seen my fair share of stuff. But if a fight had broken out we couldn’t have gotten out of the restaurant. There were also several older retired folks there having coffee who were much more rattled than me.

It gets loud and borders on out of control quickly. I don’t see how you make it better without some sort of security presence, but even that could really end poorly for the students.

Every restaurant has a back door. Use it to keep you and your kids safe.

The way this McDonald’s is set up is there are two side doors. This one is kind of a weird set up and has a more “modern” seating arrangement which actually makes the flow cramped.

Also is anyone going to get rid of the homeless man who drinks all day and now is harassing people (including teen girls)?

Get rid of? What exactly are you suggesting here? Way to dehumanize people who are homeless.

I know the layout. I also know that there is a back door out the kitchen where deliveries come in. Don't limit yourself when it comes to your safety.

NP here. Are you supposed to climb over a mob of teenagers to get to the back door? You're being purposefully difficult, because why? The teens are likely blocking the people in the booth. How are you supposed to get to the entrance near the drive through, the entrance near the door or the back kitchen delivery door if you can't even get out of the dining area or your booth. I live near there and am at Bradlee all the time. I know exactly the layout. Like you just think someone can get out of the booth, climb over the teens, jump over the counter and race out the back, so super easy? FFS.

Also is anyone going to get rid of the homeless man who drinks all day and now is harassing people (including teen girls)?

How about you be "anyone"? What have you done? Have you tried to get the city's attention? Given the homeless man information on Carpenter's Shelter (they are swimming in cash, certainly they can help)? Confronted him when you see him harassing teen girls?

Once again a poster is being purposefully difficult and ridiculous in their response. Are you even familiar at all with Bradlee shopping center, then you would know this person. He lives in the bushes across the street next to the fence of Fairlington, which is Arlington. He collects propane tanks, traffic cones, door mirrors, chairs, other trash, and throws beer cans all over the place. Often he is standing IN the road (King) yelling at cars. Then during the day he likes to cross the street into Alexandria to the Bradlee McDonalds where he begs from the drive through line. He is always drunk. Alexandria City has tried to relocate him, offer him services but he has refused. He technically sleeps in Arlington in the bushes and Arlington apparently doesn’t GAF. I went to Wilson over this because this summer I was afraid he would die of heat stroke and this is what he told me. I mean what could go wrong with him smoking, drinking, and collecting propane tanks on the side of the road?!

His behavior has no escalated. He bangs on the windows of McDonalds and Starbucks screaming at people, usually teen girls. He followed my daughter Nd her friend while they were walking towards &pizza until they started running and went into the restaurant. 2 weeks ago I happened to see him on Braddock, in between the gas station and the entrance to Safeway, with his pants down.

So, what exactly is humanizing about his behavior? He is sexually harassing minor females? WTAF with your post PP. this man is mentally ill and an addict. His rights to get drunk, collect trash, litter, wander in a super busy road where he’s either going to cause an accident or get hit, and to harass women does g trump all. F him. Yes, remove him, get him in a shelter, in treatment, or whatever. But has this what Alexandria has become?

At what point does Bradlee ban ACHS students? I avoid it generally but specifically during lunch and after school.

The McDonalds is a corporate store not a franchisee, at what point does it get shut down?

Cops had to stop two large groups of students who headed to Bradlee to join the fight.

How would they ban students though?

I do recall growing up in NOVA that some McDonalds near schools would place signs that stated a time limit students could stay. But other than that, what else is there.

You actually could ban unaccompanied minors from your store or restaurant during lunch/after school hours. You're allowed to discriminate against the young based solely on their age.

A lot of high school students are 18 or older. Among the types of youths who might cause this sort of trouble, those could even be sophomores or juniors.

yes I have contacted the city, including the mayor, and I have it in writing. This summer we approached him to see if he was hungry and ok, and could immediately smell the booze. I absolutely would confront him if I see him harassing teen girls, but I wasn’t there. What have you done besides thinking you’re clever on DCUM? SMH at people who don’t actually get involved in their community but love to pretend to be self righteous. Put your money where your key strokes are and get involved.

He didn't grow up here and didn't go to the then TC. His wife did though. Were they shooting and stabbing and murdering each other at Bradlee back then?

Sadly, people in that situation cannot be forced to get help and many are resistant. I’m sure there have been many efforts over the years to get him support.

Wilson SHOCKED that Bradlee businesses are concerned. Maybe if they gave generously to his campaign like his Del Ray business buddies, he'd be more aware.

There would be campaign funding available to a moderate Republican. Too bad the VA GOP is committed to abortion and MAGA

This is an example Wilson’s social media approach applied to a tradition press outlet. Again, Wilson is either really that dumb (how can he not know about this continuing issue) or is lying about his knowledge (which is how he addresses tough questions on social media). Either way, it is a problem.

You should go to the NextDoor website for the neighborhoods around the shopping center. I read there that people have tried to help him in the past and sometimes he is calm and other times he will get set off. I think you are right regarding the escalating behavior especially the propane tanks. The police and City services are aware of him and have tried to assist but he is not interested. I do wonder if the situation may be at the point that he is not capable of making the decision and they need to step in and see if they can get him stabilized on some meds.

This man wanders around drunk in the parking lot of Bradlee (which always seems to be full), on the service road and on King Street. What could go wrong? Several posters in here acting as if he’s within his right to wander around drunk in the middle of a very busy road and how dare we suggest action against him to get him out of the road? If you think wandering around drunk in the road isn’t dangerous, what about that poor LSU student that got drunk and did the same thing? She’s dead. You want this guy to die? You want other people dying because their car hit him or veered to avoid hitting him? What has society become?!
