Superstore on Hulu. Workplace comedy set in a Walmart-like store. Very funny with a good cast. It’s smart and well-written while also being silly

I've been binge watching Friday Night Lights

The new poirot with John malkovich is a maze ing.
As a poirot newbie, is this the first time we get his origin story?

Oh that's interesting. I haven't seen that one. The ABC Murders done in 2018? I think in the books, Poirot's backgound story was that he was part of the Belgian police and eventually became an evacuee to England during WW1. Specifically in the first Poirot book, the Mysterious Affair at Styles.
Some of the older video series did cover Poirot's obsession (not sure that is the right word) with justice specifically the Murder on the Orient Express adaptation with David Suchet from 2010. Almost a religious fervor of sorts.

There is an episode called The Chocolate Box in the Suchet series that has flashbacks to when he was younger in Belgium.

Nice, I must have missed that one or forgotten it.

If you are looking for British shows - or shows with a significant British influence - that are engaging and will warm your heart, try Ted Lasso and/or The Great British Baking Show.

You might not think a show about the American manager of a Premier League football team in London and a baking reality show set in the English countryside would have much in common but they are both , for the most part, filled with likeable, fundamentally decent characters/people who make me smile.

Maybe they'll make you smile, too, OP.

Loved Call the Midwife—kind of predictable Lifetime type plots, lovely characters, fun accents, interesting setting m. There are some tearjerker episodes though.

I hope you find some peace, OP.

These aren’t necessarily based on the titles you listed, OP, but some of the shows that work well for light escapism for me are:

Dead to Me (NF)
Slow Horses (Apple)
Hacks (HBO)
Ted Lasso (Apple)
The Good Place (NF)
Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)
Nailed It! (Netflix)

If you enjoy foreign shows, there’s a Spanish show called High Seas on Netflix that has slightly insane storylines but beautiful people in beautiful settings. And I’m a huge fan of Korean dramas and can second (third) Crash Landing on You. I’m just finishing a romcom called What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, which is very adorable. The first couple of episodes try too hard, but then the silly sound effects and whatnot settle down and it’s more a traditional romcom feel. All are on Netflix.

Great British Baking Show. Especially the first several seasons.
