Too bad PP doesn't have to consider what you think. You are just navel gazing. Now tell me what you are doing to help these situations besides not having a child which seems very passive. I mean I am not raising cows. Should I consider that I am therefore helping with climate change? |
This. Whether you choose not to have kids or you choose to reproduce, both are equally selfish. In a way, adopting is often selfish, although I think less so or in a different way. |
The PP said “If no one had children the human race would die out.” Doesn’t matter if there are 8 billion people today. If none of them had children the human race would be gone in one generation. |
There will always be idiots reproducing so it's not going to happen. |
Also, explain why the human race dying out wouldn't be a bad thing. |
Let's start with you |
|
Crazy thread. Having children is literally selfless. You learn to live your life completely for others. All my work, all my money, all my time, all my choices are about raising good humans who will be good people.

I mean this in a really caring way, if this is a real post, please consider therapy. It sounds like you are very unhappy and could be depressed. Talking to someone could help. |
Why did you come to a parenting forum to tell parents they are bad for being parents? What exact need does this serve for you? |
DP: Shouldn’t parents and potential parents be the exact population we need to persuade not to have children, for the good of the planet? |
| I think that ethically, I always knew the best thing to do would be to adopt. But my biological drive to procreate was really strong and I listened to it. We did stop at two when we really wanted a third, and a small part of that was knowing it was better for the planet. |
| Also I think this is one of those ethical questions where the scope makes a difference in whether we feel something is right or wrong. Adding one more child to a world of billions feels like it's hardly making a dent. But if I lived on a small island of 50 people and there were very limited resources, I'd probably see that another child would take away from the resources of real life people I have to see every day and feel differently about it. |
| Nope. I think children are the answer to the world’s problems, not the cause. |
|
If you raise them properly and can provide for them, no.
Expecting society to pitch in to help raise your child because of your poor planning, yes. |
| Yes, it is very selfish for Americans to have children, but it is OK to have 7+ for people who live in Africa. |
