Is having a child selfish?

+1. Of course.

It’s funny I haven’t spent a moment focusing on myself today most likely because I have five kids

If nobody had kids and the elderly were all who remained, then who is selfish? It's a theoretical impossibility. Can't figure its selfish for humans to have children. Unless you seek human extinction. Obviously, some humans must have children. Can't say some are selfish but not others. Either all are or not.

5, 6, 7, 8 + in current times? Yes

No.

The UN says we are facing an over-population catastrophe.

The UN says world population will keep increasing at least until 2100.

It will be a catastrophe. And our doom!

Why am I responsible for other people overpopulating the world? As long as I have 1 or 2 children, I am not contributing to the problem.

Your argument reads like - I am selfish for using a car because there are factories spewing thousands of liters of greenhouse gases into the air

This is a fallacy. By having 1 or 2 children, you contributed to the problem by one or two.

Why did you have children instead of adopting?

Yes I think so. We should only be allowed to have 1 after we meet certain criteria.

this isn’t an example of unselfishness

Christ you'd think in the GENERAL PARENTING discussion forum we wouldn't have to have the people telling PARENTS that they are bad just by being parents.

Go talk somewhere else.

Who cares? We all make many decisions everyday that are actually selfish. Unless you are completely dedicating your life to not being selfish (eg Mother Theresa) you’re going to be selfish. Have kids if you want them, don’t if you don’t. Or adopt.

the only people who I ever see asking this question are:

1) childless women who have been pressured by family to have children. Instead of taking this anger out of the people that are pressuring them, they decide to get mad at women who have given birth. It's a need to make themselves feel better, for choices they've been made to feel bad about.
2) environmentalists who have underlying strong leanings that only CERTAIN people should be able to have children
3) misogynist men who have some weird issue with birth

I wonder if OP is some dude who knocked up a woman and is now trying to convince her she's a bad person if she doesn't want to abort.

Having a child is wonderful and contributes to the world.

Wrong.

Having a child contributes to overpopulation and climate change.

If no one had children the human race would die out.

Though, I wish you could have gone back in time to convince your parents they were being selfish

The human race isn't dying out. We just hit 8 billion. Get your facts right.
