Are Irish Coffees popular?

And what is the problem with that?

Nothing, but if that's what you want, ask for it. Don't ask for something that is made with other ingredients

Honestly in the occasions I have indulged in morning drinking, even back in college, it just made me want to go take a nap (yes, even if I also had coffee). Just felt sluggish all day. I don't get the appeal.

It’s not to get drunk. It’s to get 1-2 hrs of a social / happy buzz to start the day.

I tried coffee plus 1 shot of Bailey’s last weekend and it was too weak. It basically just tastes like a little sweetened cream in the coffee. 1 shot whiskey and 1 shot of Bailey’s into 12oz of good black coffee was a great ratio.

I have had the opposite experience and have had to send back the Irish coffee with Baileys and ultimately just ask for coffee and shot of whiskey so I could make my own.

My grandpa used to make Irish coffees for the family following big holiday meals, to go with or right after dessert. It was basically his only culinary contribution. Never had one outside of that kind of festive occasion.
