| And the board just unanimously approved the recommended calendar. |
Glad it was relatively straightforward in the end, I was a bit nervous as we had already made some end of summer plans. |
+1. Really happy with this calendar |

To recap, first day of school will be Aug 28, 2023.
These are how the other days are marked: September 4: H 22: ER 25: NI October 9: PD November 1: GP/M 10: PD/I 20: ER 21: ER 22: SC 23: H 24: H December 25: H 26: NI 27: NI 28: SC 29: SC January 1: H 2: NI 15: H 29: GP/M February 15: PD/I 16: PD 19: H March 1: ER 25: NI/M 26: NI/M 27: SC 28: SC 29: H April 1: H 10: GP/M 22: PD/M May 15: PD/I 27: H June 13: ER (last day) |
| Thank you for posting this!!! I didn't want to reserve a family trip the week of Aug 21 until I knew the school dates. |
| This is a better calendar than this year's calendar. |
| I didn't really follow what they were saying about the three days marked PD/I. It sounded like one would be for ES, one for MS, and one for HS? And what would the other schools be doing on those days, having regular instruction? |
| It sounds like these three professional days will be counted as instructional days. PA does this in that they have a few days where teachers have professional development but they still count as instructional days for students. In this case, one day would be designated as a professional day for each of the three school levels. They would offer instructional/enrichment opportunities (optional it seems) for students at that level to engage in that day while teachers plan. On the two days when your school level isn't involved, regular instruction would take place. Not sure why they're spread out like this. Seems like you could accomplish it all on one day, but whatever. At least they count as instructional days and don't drag out the calendar. |
|
I think they nailed it! Phew.
Can I ask a really silly question though? Why can’t they just decide/designate which one is for which level now? |

HS teacher here. Overall I'm pleased with this calendar. But come on - whyever are the quarters so lopsided? HS curricula is written for 90 day semesters. Semester B is always crunched because of spring testing and often loses snow days. This calendar has Sem B with 3 days less than curricula, and 9 days less than Sem A.
Q1 = 44 Q2 = 51 Q3 = 43 Q4 = 44 There's 182 days planned, which would be 91 per semester if evenly split. But this has 96 days in Sem A and only 87 in Sem B, with Q3 (the one most likely to be hit with snow) the shortest at 43 days. Why not have Monday 1/22 the end of Q2, making both Q2 and Q3 47 days each? Or at least back-up one day from Monday 1/29 to Friday 1/26? I know they are juggling around multiple options when trying to finalize, but doesn't anyone do a final sanity check on the whole thing.

| So was that choice "D"? I can't remember the details of each. |
| On first glance this looks reasonable! No crazy early start, no crazy long Xmas break. I was hoping for one that was similar to what we currently have and this looks close. |
Just guessing, but q2 has the half days for Thanksgiving which don't end up being normal instructional time, and days are lost around Christmas with extra kids out and more "fun" activities, and likely snow days in January. So there's a bit of a built in bumper? |
It's closest to scenario D, but not exactly the same. |
