| Ah well. Calendar is fine, it sounds like most are happy, but ugh summer is too long. |
| I’m so happy. Due to my work schedule I can only take vacations in late August. |
| Is there a link to the calendar? |
See page 8 https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/CLUUZK7968D0/$file/ADOPTED%202023-2024%20School%20Yr%20Calendars%20221206.pdf |
Is this final? Thx! |
Do kids go to school while the teachers are doing PD? Is the instruction just by subs? That is very confusing. I thought only in-person school counted, not asynchronous. |
These dates were finalized yesterday. I presume they will post a final version of the PDF on their website. |
Elem kids can sign up for those “out of school” programs that have been run by MoCo rec. It will be free and will have transportation. It sounded like the middle and high school kids would be able to opt into off site programming too, but they haven’t figured it out yet. None of these things will be required or graded but they are exploring the details of how to track attendance/participation. As the pp said, students will have regular school on the other two PD/I days with regular teachers. |
Thank you for the update! |

Interesting: at the BOE meeting tomorrow, they'll be voting on a proposal to revise the 2023-24 calendar because of the primary election day in May 2024. But they are also removing several professional development days, converting them to regular school days:

The specific recommendations:
• Friday, November 10, 2023, be changed from a Professional Development/Instruction day to an instructional day for all staff and students; • Thursday, February 15, 2024, be changed from a Professional Development/Instruction day to an instructional day for all staff and students; • Friday, February 16, 2024, be changed from a Professional Development day for staff to an instructional day for all staff and students; • Tuesday, May 14, 2024, be designated as a holiday in observance of primary election day; and • Wednesday, May 15, 2024, be changed from a Professional Development/Instruction day to an instructional day for all staff and students |
So this removes that "mid-winter break" that had originally been set for February. |
| Did they not have enough instructional days? What is the motivation? |
State added a primary day during the school year, requiring closure. Note - the three "professional/instructional" days were not full PD system wide. They were trying to add one PD day per level while holding regular school for the other levels. So it is adding back one actual in-person instructional day per level. |
