Three quarters of Senate Democrats voted to continue the COVID national emergency

Mr. Jha says vaccines and boosters will prevent 100% of covid-deaths.

Yet the WaPo’s article differs:

Covid status as public health emergency provides:

- health insurance to an additional 15 million Americans who may lose access to Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Programs when the PHE ends

- allows for telehealth initiatives and health care worker flexibilities, which may cease or be severely curtailed after PHE ends

- enhanced access to vaccines through pharmacies

- FDA’s ability to fast-track authorization of Covid-19 drugs, vaccines, tests, and protective equipment

Why do Democrats want to keep this emergency status?

If every Republican and a quarter of the Democrats voted against it, it didn't pass and there will be nothing for Biden to veto.

The original post was confusing. (Not written by me.)

The Senate passed a bill to end the “Covid emergency” with some bipartisan support and Biden has said he will veto (meaning the emergency continues.)

The Senate passed a similar bill in March with less Dem votes. Clearly the emergency continued back then too.

So are you in favor of extending it indefinitely?

Not PP but I’m in favor of extending that list indefinitely, so if that’s how we do it then I guess so. But I also think healthcare (especially vaccines) should be easily accessible to everyone, and healthcare workers shouldn’t be put at more risk than necessary.

Booster didn’t do jack for me. Got COVID anyways.

I got it from my spouse who got it from coworkers, but it was very mild for both of us, which is the point of the vaccine, so the vaccine & booster were very effective from my point of view. It doesn’t create a force field that prevents you from breathing around people with Covid. It prepares your immune system to shut it down after you have been exposed to it, so you don’t have severe symptoms or pneumonia.

They don’t.

The fact of the matter is that almost no one is getting severe disease from COVID anymore. The current circulating strains simply are not that bad.

The pandemic in terms of the deaths is over unless a new deadly strain leaks from a lab somewhere.

Ah, so no more need for studies in the development of new vaccines? Glad to know you have such faith!

The comments her demonstrate the terrible science education most American receive. It’s truly awful how scientifically illiterate some of you are.
