Moco Antisemitic incident

Anonymous
Can we please stop speculating about the vandal? While his motivation is important to this particular case, it's the big picture that really matters here: antisemitic incidents are on the rise and Jews do not feel safe in our own country. What are we (collectively, not just the Jews) doing about that?

It seems like anti-Semitic incidents are always on the rise. I can't think of a time when they were on a decline.

There was a second incident on the brick wall at the corner of Tuckerman and Old Georgetown. Though they did make some effort to clean it, the swastika is still visible.

Pls don’t call it the Swastika ( which is a holy symbol of Hindus, Jains and Buddhists worldwide). The Nazi symbol is the Hakenkreuz which is counterclockwise and tilted.

What? That’s what it’s been called and what 99.999% of the population knows it as and calls it.

That's statistics. It's a vandalism misdemeanor right?

I hope there are cameras somewhere on the trail that captured those responsible for this disgustingness.

You just demonstrated with your comment why Chappellle’s monologue was antisemitic.

Stop it already. Go to the other forum to keep having that argument. This is about an actual act of anti-Semitism here in Bethesda.

And don’t you think they are related? I am a Jew who lives in Bethesda. This is literally on my doorstep. Incidents like this are going to keep happening until people are educated enough to understand what antisemitism is, what it looks like and how to speak out against it.

How are people not speaking out against it? I see many leaders denouncing the incident, and there is no shortage of "Hate has no home here" signs on lawns in Bethesda.

Almost none If you asked if it was done by a child under 18, I’d say decent, if you asked odds for under 25, I’d say high, but I’m isn’t guessing.

I’m wondering what are the odds that it was done by a member of the north bethesda community. The last incident I strongly suspected it was someone from outside the community given that all the incidents were concentrated around the exit/entrance to the beltway. To have a repeat so close in time and location is really unsettling. It’s also more specific and more violent. It’s really upsetting.

My money is on a middle schooler.

I seriously doubt it. That 1488 is a deep dive into hate. It’s not hard to learn about but one would need to be searching for hate groups to learn about it. I’m going to guess an adult man with a membership to something like proud boy’s.

I was thinking a teenager because spraypainting seems very teenager-y and because the message is so on the nose, but who knows.

That's statistics. It's a vandalism misdemeanor right?

I guess it would depend if it could be interpreted as a threat?

It seems too broad to me, since it's not calling out a particular person by name... but I'm not a lawyer.

More shaken about this than I expected to be: seeing a pic of the graffiti... doesn't look like a young kid just looking for attention.

IANAL either, but I could see how this could get serious charges. Assault includes threats/intimidation. The report cites one instance falling under assault that includes use of a noose. The question could be whether it needs to be specific or directed at a population at large. It is also not clear what the threshold is for misdemeanor vs felony assault when its intimidation. Threatening mass violence (“terroristic threats”) is also a separate crime in Maryland. If it is not a juvenile, I can see them filing a lot of serious charges.

It's not just antisemitic incidents on the rise, it's much worse: violent crime is on a deep rise, especially murders, since the 2020 "summer of love" supported by so many "liberals."

Time to protect public safety for all. We don't want to live in anarchy and lawless hate.

Someone posted a photo of the gallows from 1/6. The image of the girl holding the noose is extremely clear. I don’t believe she is in prison with the other 1/6ers. She should be VERY easy to catch by the FBI. Are there updates on their search for her?

If they are serious about catching the vandal in this case, they will post images from surveillance online with “do you know this person”, etc. If they don’t, that’s telling in itself.

There are many people, with clear pictures, that haven’t been caught yet. I think your inner circle of friends and family aren’t turning them in.

as far as this antisemitic case, I really hope there’s footage and they put it out there for the public to identify them.

That can’t be true, given the number of 1/6 ers they have.

I’m a Jew and feel very safe in this country. Please don’t speak for all of us.

Ok, let me clarify. Not this PP. Some Jews. Most Jews? All the Jews that I know.
