| Can we please stop speculating about the vandal? While his motivation is important to this particular case, it's the big picture that really matters here: antisemitic incidents are on the rise and Jews do not feel safe in our own country. What are we (collectively, not just the Jews) doing about that? |
It seems like anti-Semitic incidents are always on the rise. I can't think of a time when they were on a decline. |
| There was a second incident on the brick wall at the corner of Tuckerman and Old Georgetown. Though they did make some effort to clean it, the swastika is still visible. |
What? That’s what it’s been called and what 99.999% of the population knows it as and calls it. |
That's statistics. It's a vandalism misdemeanor right? |
How are people not speaking out against it? I see many leaders denouncing the incident, and there is no shortage of "Hate has no home here" signs on lawns in Bethesda. |
I was thinking a teenager because spraypainting seems very teenager-y and because the message is so on the nose, but who knows. |
I guess it would depend if it could be interpreted as a threat? |
It seems too broad to me, since it's not calling out a particular person by name... but I'm not a lawyer. |
| More shaken about this than I expected to be: seeing a pic of the graffiti... doesn't look like a young kid just looking for attention. |
IANAL either, but I could see how this could get serious charges. Assault includes threats/intimidation. The report cites one instance falling under assault that includes use of a noose. The question could be whether it needs to be specific or directed at a population at large. It is also not clear what the threshold is for misdemeanor vs felony assault when its intimidation. Threatening mass violence (“terroristic threats”) is also a separate crime in Maryland. If it is not a juvenile, I can see them filing a lot of serious charges. |
It's not just antisemitic incidents on the rise, it's much worse: violent crime is on a deep rise, especially murders, since the 2020 "summer of love" supported by so many "liberals." Time to protect public safety for all. We don't want to live in anarchy and lawless hate. |
That can’t be true, given the number of 1/6 ers they have. |
I’m a Jew and feel very safe in this country. Please don’t speak for all of us. |
Ok, let me clarify. Not this PP. Some Jews. Most Jews? All the Jews that I know. |
