2 hurricanes within 2 months - why live in Florida?

-too hot and too humid (and I like living in a climate that has 4 distinct seasons)
-the public schools are awful
-the population (intolerant of others, esp LGBTQ+) is not a group of people I want to be around

Wow, the whole population? Like, every single person? Every single one is intolerant?

I'm glad you understand the perils of generalizing...

I like: outdoor hobbies like boating and golfing that I can’t do in DC for much of the year; proximity to amazing beaches and theme parks; no state income tax; the laid back lifestyle; and the fact that you can actually buy a nice, well built house in FL for the cost of an ugly split level built cheaply in 1970 in NOVA, among other things. I also hate dealing with months of cold/ice/snow and the sun setting at 4:45.

You learn to live with the storms, and they’re generally not a big deal if you live inland. You can also evacuate from a hurricane. I don’t know that I could live in a place with wildfires like parts of CO or on a fault like like coastal CA. I understand that people have different preferences than me, though, and that most people wouldn’t want to leave a place that is “home” to them.

This. For people who claim to hate Florida, y’all sure do spend a lot of time thinking about us. Enjoy your hate, I guess. It’s sunny and 74 degrees. We are taking the kayaks out. The manatees are back.

Obviously discounting people who are unable to move for financial or physical reasons. But people who are voluntarily moving to Florida - why? Please explain this to me,

Just stop. Climate change cannot be linked to any particular storm. This year has not had a lot of storms. 2 a year in Floriday is not a lot. 1901 there were 4. Can't blame that on climate change. This is a very normal/average year. Climate change not really likely to impact Florida that much in any event.

Wait, are you kidding? Climate change is already affecting Florida a lot. It's going to devastate a lot of the state. We're like 90 percent coastline here! This is nothing but one example - but I live in Tampa Bay too and there are people in my non-flood zone neighborhood who've moved here from the beach because they are worried about increasing severity and number of storms.

This year Ian was horrific, devastating - and Nicole is mostly NBD. At least where I am. It's been a rainy, windy day.

You need to learn more about actual storm data, and not get your weather information from Don Lemon. No, climate change is not already affecting Florida a lot.

Don Lemon, noted scientific expert (and sexual assailant), who suggested on TV that a black hole may have appeared on earth and caused Flight 377 to vanish.

Yeah - that’s the guy I’d trust to understand weather and climate.

I would say at best this might have allowed the rubes in Fla to catch up.

Florida is where the crazies go. Avoid at all costs.

DOD data shows different. Kids who were relocated from FCPS top schools were behind in FL schools. Please, stay in your bubble.
