Obviously discounting people who are unable to move for financial or physical reasons. But people who are voluntarily moving to Florida - why? Please explain this to me,

Just stop. Climate change cannot be linked to any particular storm. This year has not had a lot of storms. 2 a year in Floriday is not a lot. 1901 there were 4. Can't blame that on climate change. This is a very normal/average year. Climate change not really likely to impact Florida that much in any event.

Wait, are you kidding? Climate change is already affecting Florida a lot. It's going to devastate a lot of the state. We're like 90 percent coastline here! This is nothing but one example - but I live in Tampa Bay too and there are people in my non-flood zone neighborhood who've moved here from the beach because they are worried about increasing severity and number of storms.

This year Ian was horrific, devastating - and Nicole is mostly NBD. At least where I am. It's been a rainy, windy day.

No personal property taxes and no state income taxes.

A weak Cat-1 hurricane is NBD to us. There’s a huge, vast difference between a Cat-1 and a Cat-4. You have a party for a Cat-1. You hunker down or leave for a Cat-4.

-native Floridian with a half-dozen hurricanes worth of experience.

And it never snows here, which is awesome!

This. But OP knows that hurricanes aren't a big deal for most Floridians. Lots of people on this board are furious about people electing DeSantis, hence the attempt to shame Floridians the day after his landslide victory.

Exactly this.

For a state that everyone hates on this board, you sure do talk about us down here an awful lot.

Hurricanes typically happen often in the fall. This year was a lighter year compared to some. Stop pretending like this is some new phenomenon.

Louisiana has way more hurricanes in the past than Florida.

And the Carolinas have more than anyone else. But no one seems to trash them. Oh wait, maybe because every car in drop-off line at school seems to have the obligatory OBX sticker on the back, I guess.

Florida is filled with hate and idiots.

I lived there. Graduate of UF.

Came from another state public schools were so bad I had no classes to take the senior year they just graduated me.

Schools suck, DeSantis is going to rob them blind and make himself G-d.
Trump wanted to be Kim Jong-un. DeSantis wants to be Victor Orbán. And he will be.

Right?

Florida is awful. It’s a terrible place. It’s torture being there. And if you’re a lib from the northeast, you definitely should listen to everyone trashing Florida abd take their advice and NEVER come here. All the bad stuff you’ve heard is true. Save yourselves! Stay in NY where it’s safe.

Can you please convince as many of your fellow progs of this as you can?

Yeah, my parents live down there. I took the kids to visit maybe half a dozen times during the pandemic to get away from this depressing, shutdown area. DeSantis reopened the schools while our kids here were stuck in virtual. It was like night and day, and a lot of people from up north voted with their feet.

I have a t-shirt that says "Make America Florida." My Arlington neighbors give me their best squinty-faced scowl when they see it.

What was it like growing up in Arkansas?

I would say at best this might have allowed the rubes in Fla to catch up.

Florida is where the crazies go. Avoid at all costs.
