2 hurricanes within 2 months - why live in Florida?

Anonymous
It is just going to continue to get worse and worse as climate change continues. Why in gods name would you continue to live or relocate to this state? Obviously discounting people who are unable to move for financial or physical reasons. But people who are voluntarily moving to Florida - why? Please explain this to me,

"Smoke 'em if you got 'em." Enjoy Florida while it's still there, before it's gone.

Tax dodge. People are old and they go there to die.

Oh God- don't get the Florida obessives on this board talking about Florida. They managed to completely overrun this thread for example: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1090712.page

They are crazy.

Sunshine and orange trees.

We have a light storm today. You really need to stop internalizing everything you see on the news.

Prestige. All our relatives were jealous after we moved there.

We have family who have lived there for 20+ yrs. Every year or two they get a tropical storm and they lived through Ivan but for the most part it's low COL, lovely weather and for them a friendly place. They live about 15mi inland so things like storm surges aren't a worry for them.

Is this sarcasm?

Have you heard of Fisher Island? Gulf Stream? Indian River Shores? Jupiter Island? No? Well, that explains a lot.

The vast majority of people in Florida did not take a direct hit or two direct hit from these hurricanes. It's not like the entire State got wiped away by a hurricane. I'm in the Tampa Bay area right now and it's just sort of gently raining with a little breeze occasionally.

And it never snows here, which is awesome!

This. But OP knows that hurricanes aren't a big deal for most Floridians. Lots of people on this board are furious about people electing DeSantis, hence the attempt to shame Floridians the day after his landslide victory.

Their public schools were open in most of the counties during the Covid while FCPS shut schools down for full year. You can totally recovery after the hurricane losses, but your child will never recover from the lost development and will be behind for a long time.

Then they grow up and work in Florida. Yeah that's competitive.

Just stop. Climate change cannot be linked to any particular storm. This year has not had a lot of storms. 2 a year in Floriday is not a lot. 1901 there were 4. Can't blame that on climate change. This is a very normal/average year. Climate change not really likely to impact Florida that much in any event.
