Parents who never visit their adult children

It’s not normal and my parents are the terrible about it. They live in Baltimore and they’ve come to dc/Bethesda 2x in 6 years and are constantly “where have you been why don’t you come over?”. Now I ask them to come over at that very moment and they always have a dumb excuse. It’s not like they don’t travel - they went to Europe for a month this summer and to the beach multiple times. Drives me crazy and they think I’m joking with them when I tell them.

This post has me asking myself why I’m breaking my back putting my kids through expensive colleges if the end result is we see each other once a year in the future… I could do a lot with the difference between state schools and their privates.

Retired people seem to have ZERO concern or care for other people's valuable time - and seem to do what they want, when they want to - because are they bitter? Entitled? Maybe both.

Hope I am not so bitter or entitled some day (in the not too distant future).

This - my mom is “too busy” to do so many things and when I see her she goes on and on about how she is soooo busy. She is retired and volunteers at the library 4 hours a week. I work full time managing 4 departments at my company, my spouse works full time, we have 2 kids in elementary who each play a sport. My husband is a Cub Scout den leader and I coach the 3rd grade robotics team. I suppose we should be thankful my parents make time to visit us weekly and eat a homemade meal I prepare on the dishes my husband washes.
