Again, in Virginia, unless the lanes are marked there is no duty to use a particular lane when turning.

OMG, I would never never never trust either driver (turning left or turning right) to use the "correct" lane. Get ahead of them or wait behind the other driver because you never know what they're going to do. As this thread reveals, the driver training and state laws are inconsistent.

Related: I remind my teens to always remain calm because many drivers are carrying guns.

This is absurd. We live in a time where people have navigation systems all the time, and don't need to follow a parade to the cemetery in a busy urban/semi-urban/suburban area.
