I think that many US drivers don't honestly understand this concept. Is it taught in driver's ed?

NP. I never took drivers ed. It's not a requirement or even offered in most states. I read the manual and then took a test. My parents taught me how to drive and signed off that I had the correct amount of hours.

What do you mean by drivers’ ed not not even being offered in most states? Do you just mean via public schools? Because everyone I grew up with took private lessons, and we were not rich.

Drivers’ ed should be required everywhere, it’s ridiculous that it’s not.

Pp here. Drivers Ed just wasn’t offered in my school. I don’t know of a single person who hired a private driving teacher. My parents were well off too. They did teach me how to drive well. I’m not one of the idiots on the road around here.

It wasn’t offered at my school either, but I took it at another school on weeknights and Saturdays.

headlights... you do not need to use your brights(hi-beams) during the day, and if someone in front of you is tapping their brakes repeatedly but not slowing down. check to see if you brights are on.

if you miss your turn. its ok to continue driving until the next opportunity comes up to make a turn and double back. Don't stop in the traffic lane with your turn signal on.... Yes i'm talking to you ladies trying to get into tysons from 123

put the phone down. if my 25K ford has blue tooth, yes your 100K mecedes has it as well. have your kid set it up for ya. you do look like an idiot holding you cell phone like a walkie talkie

I have literally never heard of this, although admittedly I almost never drive with my high beams on. I thought the "high beams" that are so annoying these days are just those crazy new headlights some people use.

When I do that (tap my brakes without slowing down) it's because my parents taught me that's what you do when the person behind you is tailgating you and you want them to get off your a$$. Is that incorrect?

If you are being tailgated, move to a right-hand lane. If you are on a two-lane road, slow down a bit at the next passing opportunity so the other car can pass you.

Not sure what tapping your brakes will accomplish other than further pissing off the person who is tailgating you.

It might also accomplish getting rear-ended if the person behind you isn’t paying attention.

Many US drivers think you are supposed to merge when you see the merge sign not at the merge so if you wait all the way to the end and then merge they think you’re putting in line

You should merge in a way that doesn’t slow traffic. In bumper to bumper traffic, continue to the marge point and zipper merge. In free flowing traffic, merge before the lane ends so that cars don’t need to slow down and let you in.

SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT! The LEFT lane is for passing, move over.

This is correct if you want to piss people off and get shot at in DC.

I think it's a great idea, and for myself too. I know there's stuff I missed or forgot since I was 16.

For example, I honestly did not know about oncoming traffic stopping for school buses until I moved here (genuinely grateful to the mom who yelled at me). Was it not covered in my state, or did I forget? Don't know. I remember a million test questions about stopping distance with a trailer, which has never come up.

I am trying to pass but I can't drive faster than all the cars in front of me. It's called traffic.

Yes to this! The number of people I see every day, especially MD drivers, who move to the far left to drive slower than the flow of traffic is mind boggling.

Seriously I see people on 270 who are in the middle lane with no cars in front of them still move over to the left.

Or people being passed by cars on their right who are still completely clueless and won't move over. Then they look at me like I am the jerk when I beep as I pass them on the right.

The slow MD drivers in the left lane of GW parkway kill me.

And if you are turning right on a green light, please go! You do not need to stop and wait for the opposing traffic to turn left in front of you.

pull over for funerals.

That's not required in Virginia unless the turns are marked with dotted lines. Even then it's best to assume people will turn wide. Most drivers don't want to over use the steering wheel.

1) Flashing traffic light:
Red: Treat as a stop sign.
Yellow: Proceed with caution; you have the right of way. If unnecessarily stop, you're creating a hazard.

2) Completely out traffic light:
Treat as an all way stop.
The number of people who would stop at a flashing yellow and yet cruise through a light showing nothing is insane.

3) Lane drop:
Use all of lane until the merge point and then alternate. If you play Hero and block people from the ending lane from merging because your fragile mind thinks you're being cut, you're the cause of the backup.

I'm sorry that this is too hard for many of you, but if that's the case, get off the road with your weapons.

And yes Seminary Rd. Karen from Wednesday, your little smirk over ending up one car length in front of me at the next red light. I stand by the gesture I made to you, although I doubt that you could process what it means. Jesus may have saved your breasts, but unfortunately not your brain cells; much less your soul. Good luck with that.

Passive aggressive misogyny

Good luck with that buddy.

If this is a stoplight and I have a green light and am turning right into the right lane, is it okay for the oncoming left turner to turn at the same time into the other lane? This is a daily thing I encounter.
