| More bikes duh! |
A rare kindred spirit on DCUM??
|
| More bikes. More Parks, More public transportation, Fewer featureless condos, fewer homeless people, fewer criminals, better sports teams, better schools, better DC Council |
The city has spend BILLIONS on bike lanes (this in a city where poverty levels exceed some states in the deep south). So, yes, it would be nice if somebody actually used them.... |
Folx is how xtra obnoxious and pompous leftists try to communicate they are down with the people. |
|
Better code enforcement—and laws to prevent ugly buildings from sprouting up like mushrooms.
Litter prevention and cleaning— like the clean team sweepers in some commercial areas. We need this in u street/shaw. Beautification grants to community orgs to plant gardens and tree box plantings in areas like my street, nj avenue. Crack down on slumlords. Architecture design contests fir new public buildings like they did for the newer dc libraries, which are awesome Complete ban on single use plastic bags at grocery stores, corner stores and markets Eradication of regrettable public art that is objectively ugly, like the ny ave bridge gate of thorns or the yellow monstrosity near city vista -5th and k Total ban on atvs and loud engine vehicles More street musicians, artists, performers encouraged by the city in parks, downtown plazas etc Beautify all the medians with planters, trees and grass |
|
In addition to my long list above:
Restore Dupont circle— the benches are so sad Redo alleys to be more well lit, paved and clean them more regularly and trim weeds Grants to businesses in run down commercial areas to renovate and modernize |
| A city that considers disabled people wouldnt allow the dockless scooters everywhere and would ensure sidewalks are wide enough and maintained. |
The thing that enable DC to have a comeback was excellent housing stock. It’s a shame what they have allowed to happen to it and it will certainly have long-term negative consequences. |
|
Solve the problems, the city is already beautiful. Lack of beauty isn't DC's problem, neither is the lack of pedestrian friendly places, parks, bike lanes, etc.
Some problems effecting QOL of those living in DC or visiting: -- homeless encampments -- rodents -- crime -- smoking in residential buildings (any smoking is terrible, but pot is particularly out of control) -- incentives for leasing companies and landlords to rent to low quality tenants with housing vouchers who don't follow the rules of conduct or may even be criminals. -- schools |
| DC's beauty has been marred by gentrification and white privilege. Start there. |
| Less humidity. |
Education, because you can't seem to count. |
Wrong and racist. Like it or not, gentrification leads to investment in homes and an uptick in small businesses including restaurants and stores of all kinds. It increases tax revenues for the city too. |
Beauty is not hordes of wealthy people descending upon lower income communities, forcing out those who were there before with artificially inflated housing prices, and eradicating a community’s history, culture, and sense of place with bland “could be anywhere” businesses selling bland and overpriced “could be anywhere” food or products. Beauty is also not money and tax revenues. |
