I had gastric sleeve and lost only 40 lbs. I'm on ozempic and at a MUCH lower weight than my lowest after sleeve - and still losing. Obesity medicine is not all that advanced - and any doctor that knows what current science shows would've worked on insulin resistance first (although until now - no real drugs for it!).
My PCP and prescriber is on Plushcare. I love her and she changed my life! Push and Alpha also prescribe. These apps/services aren't geared to it but lots of folks use them for GLP-1s (Push & Alpha moreso than Plush). Would never recommend surgery now with these drugs available. OP: if you tried these drugs you might discover you no longer have a relationship with food. |
Yes. He has prescribed a semaglutide for me. |
OP here - I looked at Kahan's site. I work in DC when I go into the office so this could be done. I must change behavior, and the drugs.
Thank you!!! |
Do Dr. Kahan's fees break the bank? |
I was you. I put off surgery for years. Finally did it and cried after a year that I had put it off for so long. It's not really behavior therapy you need because your eating is just a deeply ingrained habit and breaking habits is tough. You already know the things to do to break a bad habit and if you don't you can google. Complications from the surgeries are far more rare these days. They have been doing these surgeries for 30 + yrs and over that time experience and knowledge has grown among the medical community. |
Which surgery did you have? I would consider the sleeve. Bypass may be overkill. I am torn, sleeve plus therapy. Or drugs plus therapy. |
OMG stop. No, you need a lifestyle change first. Go see a doctor or make an appointment at your local hospital's weight loss clinic. Drugs should never be your first choice. Grow up, there's no easy solution. I say this as someone who recently lost 60lbs by changing my diet and adding in exercise (190 to 130). I did not use drugs. |
I go to NCWW here in DC. Love Dr. Kahan. |
I had the sleeve. Lost 100 lbs and have kept it off. I had tried drugs, therapy, etc another thing you might want to consider - poor impulse control can make people overeat - look up inattentive adhd And PP talking about no carb diet? That’s actually the diet plan post bariatric surgery. I mean there is really no such thing as actual no carb bc carbs are in almost every food but very low carb/high protein is the life long eating plan after surgery. So people who continually slam that plan are wrong. |
OP here. So I knew my insurance would not pay for bariatric surgery even if medically necessary, but they also will not pay for any of new wegovy drugs. Not at all for any reason.
So, lifetime of paying for those drugs, or surgery? I also listened in to Dr. kahan and it looks like his practice will be very helpful for me on the psychological side of why I eat so much of the wrong things. That therapy plus the sleeve may be my best option. I have the money, but it will be missed. |
Are you sure it won’t cover ozempic for metabolic disorder? Most do. A good bariatrician’s office will be helpful with this. |
I also go to Kahan. Before the pandemic I lost 60Lbs thanks to therapy, meds, and support from Dr. Kahan. The pandemic made things easy for me to allow bad habits to creep back in but thanks to additional support I'm on track again. The meds are a tool but truly it's the support of the staff that make it a special place. |
There is a coupon available for Mounjaro now, which is another drug like semaglutide (Wegovy) for $25/month. Dr. Kahan should be able to advise. |
You can’t actually say your method works until you keep this weight off for 5-8 years. Stop talking about subjects you are clearly very ignorant of. |
This is impressive. How old are you and are you male or female? |
