Doctor for serious weight loss and behavioral changes needed

I need more than drugs etc. I need the behavioral therapy bc I have been getting heavier and heavier. I lose on fad diets only to go crazy and gain more. I have come serious mental issues here…this is all on me. Time for a different tactic .

OP—know that the semaglutides work on the brain and the cravings. The overeating isn’t a moral failing on your part because you can’t control yourself. There is real evidence that the messages to your brain may be different than others who are able to eat less. Starting with the bloodwork to get your A1C levels is the right place to start.
Good luck!

OP here. Sounds like these new drugs are what I need.

I had gastric sleeve surgery with Dr Fitzer at Reston hospital. Life-changing and wish I had done it years ago.

Glad that it’s worked. Now with semaglutides, the need for invasive surgery should hopefully decrease.

Here’s an article that helps explain how they work:

Thanks for posting this, OP - I could have written this myself. Interested in any recommendations for a PCP who is gentle on this topic and up to speed on the new medications, etc.

I need to change my lifestyle and eating habits, but I realize I cannot do it on my own anymore. I know there are diet programs, and I did one. But the therapy and help was minimal, it was all about buying their products and a drug. I want to use the new drugs, but I need therapy etc to go with it. I would consider surgery, but too many horror stories about complications after a couple years. And, with the surgery you don’t eat anything hardly, that is why every one loses weight.

Therapy is important. For food, just eliminate all carbs.

Please share how sustainable this is—like for the rest of one’s life. Dying to hear.

Speaking of DCUMs grotesquely ignorant…

DP. Maybe. I’m somewhat skeptical of the current approach to use of semaglutides (use only while losing weight) as the studies show clinically significant issues with regain when people go off of the medication after having lost weight. If it was considered a lifelong or very long-term medication, I might agree with you, but I think that using it only for weight loss is guaranteed to fail.

That was a really good article. I thought this quote was insightful:

When people think, ‘If I can will myself to not be hungry, to not have cravings, to control what I eat every moment of every day, I will lose the weight and keep it off,' it's like saying, ‘If I just concentrate hard enough, my blood sugar levels will become normal,’" Dr. Jastreboff says. People need to know that there are physiological reasons why that strategy doesn’t work, she adds. “Obesity is a complex metabolic disease with a clear biological basis, and we can treat it with targeted therapy aimed at the biology.”

I posted it… not ignorant and likely more educated than you and with much more experience. I’m diabetic and lost 100 pounds and returned to completely normal glucose levels eliminating all carbs.

It IS considered a lifelong drug. No one is saying that it’s a short-term solution.

No, it’s not, at least not under the current insurance guidelines.

It should be lifelong, but that isn’t what current treatment protocol is.

So not a single fruit crossed your lips? Not a slice of wedding cake at a family wedding? Nothing?

None of this matters anyway unless we know:
Your age
How long ago you lost the weight
Male or female
