I’m in the SF Bay Area and masking is still big here. Local mandates pop up when the numbers go up, but I don’t think we’ve had one in our county for a while. It’s up to individual businesses if they want to require them, and many still do. A lot of people are still in the habit of masking. In general, the case numbers are low and the vaccination rate is high here. Most people follow the rules and then maybe even take it a step further with masking.
It’s anecdotal, but most people I see wear KN95s or KF94s, then surgical masks, then a few cloth. I think it was hard for people to feel comfortable with the waste of disposable masks when we had reusable masks. Now that studies show they’re much more effective, and they’re easy to find, so most people here have made the switch and still keep one handy in case they need it. Of course, local businesses that require them have extras for customers who didn’t bring one with them. |
According to COVID act now, the DC Metro area has similar numbers. I don't see a lot of masks in Fairfax County anymore and only doctor's offices require them. https://covidactnow.org/us/metro/washington-arlington-alexandria_dc-va-md-wv/?s=38802628 https://covidactnow.org/us/metro/san-francisco-oakland-berkeley_ca/?s=38802628 |
To irritate you. Why you give people that power is a mystery to me. |
| People’s use of masks is often a function of how knowledgeable they are about science or how vulnerable they are to serious illness (due to underlying conditions). The state they live in can impact public policy, which in turn impacts social norms, but it is much more complex than you want to reduce it to. |

My DH never wears a mask and is very liberal.
I wear a mask but my reason isn’t political, I’m on an immunosuppressant for Avery rare autoimmune disease. |
She may have done it because of allergies. Many allergy sufferers found mask wearing improved their symptoms. Or she knew you were coming and she wanted to upset you so you post about her online. She lives to take up space in your head. |
| Eh, just back from two weeks in Europe where virtually nobody is buying onto mask theater. Felt normal and refreshing. |
Tells me you are a dolt, but a fancy dolt who goes to Europe. |
I know someone who also just got back and came home with Covid. Oh well. |
|
I have not been as good about wearing mine in the past couple months after having caught Covid in early July. Thankfully, my illness was mild, which I believe was due to the vaccine doses I had.
I will likely go back to it, and yes, I generally wore/will wear KNs inside buildings with people I don’t know. My kids still will wear masks in school. I am looking forward to the booster in a couple weeks. I used to think Asian masking was odd/quirky. But I get it now. And with Monkeypox now being a thing, I think the masking and hygiene “rules” should continue to be used when are where needed |
I went to the ballet in Paris, everyone wore a mask. People were masking indoors and on trains/subway everywhere in Reims and Paris. Not sure where you were. |
| It's really shitty that the right wing politicized masks and vaccines. |
Or, just a dolt who pretends to visit Europe without leaving mom's basement. |
DP. So all of Europe are dolts? |

For Halloween my costume is gonna be
A Ukraine flag stamped on my forehead. Double mask with a straw hole for my latte. Halo head Face shield with a retractable feature for speaking to one of the hordes of unvaccinated illegals. Double surgery gloves. Shoe covers. I stand with Joe “we are in this together” t shirt. 6 foot long stick to poke unvaccinated legal citizens, and 6 vaccine syringes sticking out of my cranium. I’m wearing this for the next 30 Halloween’s like an old picture of a 1970s prom lavender tux with a gigantic white bow tie that today’s leaders wore in high school. |
