Bethesda Tattoo. Awesome piercing and the price is $70 + jewelry cost.

Some cultures pierce the ears of infant girls.

Agree, the ban on under 13 is completely ridiculous.

Don’t do Claire’s / piercing gun / cheap studs. I did a piercing gun when I was 4, had infections and problems for years (the hole would grow over earrings even years later!) and finally I gave up on earrings at age 13. I now wish I could wear them but the piercing location is so low in the lobe my dermatologist says I’d risk ripping my earlobe if I pierced them again.

You know, one can always remove the earring. We aren’t talking about a face tattoo.

Are you always this dramatic?

Do your daughters not know that there are many types of people in the world?

You should take them out of the bubble more often perhaps.

Where do you normally see people with giant saucers in their ears, multiple piercings, and tattoo sleeves? Where should we go to normalize this? Do you suggest a rave? Lol. Or do you just frequent tattoo parlors with your kids to get out of the bubble.

Not that PP, but sleeves are very common. Ear gauges less so. But you think people with tattoos don’t go grocery shopping, to movies, restaurants, parks, etc.? It wouldn’t be that hard to spot someone with sleeves. Or piercings.

I see people with all of those things on a regular basis. Where the heck to you live that you don't encounter this? One of the newer teachers at our elementary school has a septum piercing and many have tattoos. I work in a STEM field and most of our younger employees (under 30) have piercings or tattoos. It's really not a big deal.
If you kid is scared by these things, you have bigger issues to deal with.

I have friends with multiple piercings and tattoo sleeves, so those are pretty normal in my book. I've seen people with ear gauges I think they're called out shopping at Target. Where do you live that you don't run across this sort of thing when you're out and about?

Claire’s is under $50, can spend a little more if you want different earrings. Will do both ears at once and very nice!

Dude your kid won't care, but if she asks, here's basically what I said when my kids asked about the piercings we've seen at various stores, breweries, vineyards, parks, playgrounds, etc.:

"Some people stretch the holes out in their ears over time. Other people use a large needle similar to what they used on your ear." or "Some people choose to pierce other parts of their body. Like your Aunt Camellia, she has a nose piercing, right? Some people pierce their lips, eyebrows, even [fake shocked face] their nipples!"

Hope that helps!

I mean, I'm Indian, my mom and sister both have their noses pierced, as does my caucasian SIL.

What weird rock do you live under???

Anonymous wrote:I went to Claire's: one ear lobe piercing is not straight, and it's a struggle to put earrings in that lobe. Anecdotal, but I've wondered whether going elsewhere might have resulted in a better piercing job.

The piercing guns used my Claire’s and similar use a relatively dull metal post to crush your ear tissue until the post comes through the other side. Huge difference from going to a piercing studio that uses hollow needles which remove the tissue, leaving a hole for the jewelry. Those are straight, do not have scar tissue from a crush injury, and they use quality jewelry.

Exactly this - it's not just about the hygiene, it's about doing it properly and not having any potential for scarring or an uneven hole. I would rather a piercer use a hollow core needle than someone just push essentially a sharp post through my child's skin.

*I had my ears pierced as an infant at Claire's and my second hole as a teen at a tattoo parlor.

Pretty much everywhere? They aren't some freaks that aren't out and about in public. Servers at restaurants, baristas at coffee shops, dude next door mowing the lawn, teachers, pharmacists, I mean, people with lots of tattoos, multiple piercings, and ear gauges, are everywhere. Where do you live that you haven't seen any?

I’ve never ever seen a teacher with a tattoo sleeve or giant saucers in their ears. No, these people are not everywhere. We are in the suburbs.
