Dude your kid won't care, but if she asks, here's basically what I said when my kids asked about the piercings we've seen at various stores, breweries, vineyards, parks, playgrounds, etc.:

"Some people stretch the holes out in their ears over time. Other people use a large needle similar to what they used on your ear." or "Some people choose to pierce other parts of their body. Like your Aunt Camellia, she has a nose piercing, right? Some people pierce their lips, eyebrows, even [fake shocked face] their nipples!"

I mean, I'm Indian, my mom and sister both have their noses pierced, as does my caucasian SIL.
