OP Suitland isn’t great. I wouldn’t move there.

Just pull up a map of the DMV on crimegrade.org (type in any zip code and zoom out). You'll basically see one county in the DMV that stands out as being a hotbed of crime; everything else is almost entirely green (meaning low crime). If crime matters to you, choose accordingly.

Just like all of DC is not dangerous as some parts of it are, all of PG is not as dangerous as Suitland.

I can tell you this is not true. Kids performance reflects parents attitudes and value system. I’ve seen pleanty of low achieving kids from highly educated families. I barely graduated high school and only attended college sporadically. My older son just finished 11th grade with AP physics, AP chemistry,
DE multi variable calculus, German 5, and AP English. He scored 5s on all of his exams and had a 4.4. My youngest son isn’t in high school, but is in a private school and gets all As and scored very well on his independent school testing they use for high school admissions. Why? My DH and I make their education a priority. Their job is school and they are expected to perform well. This has been the case since day 1 and it comes natural now to them.

I have risen to VP level at my company and out earn my DH. Above all I value a hard work ethic. Not giving 100% is unacceptable and my kids have stepped up to the plate. Unfortunately my parents didn’t care about my grades, but I had inner drive to succeed in a different way. High achieving schools and kids are born from parents who have good values. PG has a low quality demographic.

Because brown and black people don’t have values? They don’t prioritize education. You are clearly out of touch with the reality outside your bubble and a self important twit.
I can tell you from experience that the highest achieving kids at the TAG and Science and Tech program are POC. Many parents push their kids hard to succeed. The big difference is that they can’t necessarily afford private tutors to get them through school and have to be self reliant.
My kids are in a PGCPS TAG middle school and many of the parents have terminal degrees. I know several POC kids from the middle college program who had perfect SAT scores.
Are there kids who struggle? Of course. Do some of the work part time or need to help their families after school, yep. Do some parents work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet, yes.
How many kids in high income areas have parents that work late and on weekends? How many corporate VPs are absent from the dinner table because they are on the phone?
Just because people aren’t affluent doesn’t mean that they don’t have values.

Not all of Suitland is dangerous; I live there and like my neighborhood. Although not perfect as with any area in this time that we are living in. Crime is everywhere because the authorities are not doing anything about these young criminals. So call safer neighborhoods have crime also but for some reason folks living have a false sense of security because you hear them stating “I never thought this would happen here.”

I work at the Suitland Federal Center, people are not getting escorts to their cars at night (maybe this happened in the past I don't know). In any of event, Census employees are not back in person yet, maybe this was a Census thing.

When I was a kid, the census parking lot is where kids used to go to get cars for the day
