This isn't true. I've lived and worked here for over 20 years and have not had any issues beyond my unlocked car getting riffled through a couple of times. That said, I don't know that I would feel comfortable in Suitland. For me it is more about SES rather than danger. It awful to say but folks just don't socialize with others outside their SES. Suitland also doesn't have great amenities. General rule of thumb in PG is if most of the homes in the block have bars on the windows, it might not be safe enough for you. In your price range I would look at Bowie, Old Greenbelt, Lanham, parts of New Carrollton, Glendale and Glenn Arden. |
You can say the same for DC homes yet folks are moving there in droves. |
Also, if you are looking in PG and schools matter, look at which specialty program you would be zoned for. Those in the norther part of the county (~north of 50) tend to be better regarded than those in the south e.g. Eleanor Roosevelt vs Flowers ; Kenmoor or Greenbelt MS vs Walker Mill for TAG. You can look up addresses here https://gis.pgcps.org/schoolfinder/findschool2.asp |
PP here- They may be moving there, but that doesn't mean that they are particularly safe. The OPs question was about safety, not about if people are moving there or if it would be a good investment. Suitland is probably fine but I don't know that I would personally feel comfortable living there. |
This is wildly untrue. Ffs. |

This shouldn't be taken as a bible but it's nice to have some ideas. I notice the schools consistently are given C grades. IMO, student performance reflects parents' education levels regardless of the school they attend.

Truth. I don’t make a lot of money, and I maxed out in my budget in order to buy in VA. Worth every penny for the house and quiet, predictable neighborhood. |
My neighborhood in Bowie sounds just like yours in Va. The horror! |
|
Suitland has pockets that are more dangerous than others. There are quiet streets, and then there are the places you should avoid like Silver Hill Road, Regency Parkway, and Branch Ave.
If you consider Suitland, move to the Camp Springs portion or the parts away from main/busy streets. |
Brookland |
Wrong. Live in Largo area. Pretty quiet here. |
WTH I bet you've never even been to PG county, this is such a ridiculous statement.
|
| I grew up in PG. I was happy to make it out, but I don't think Suitland is dangerous as in you could get killed. It lacks amenities but getting killed in my opinion is a long shot. However, it's more rough around the edges than say Bowie, or Alexandria or Silver Spring. All of my family lives in PG (not Bowie) and I don't know anyone that's felt unsafe. |
Not anymore. Population have gone down in last couple of years |
| Once, my friend found a cockroach in their pizza in Suitland. |
