Included on the list are the following 20 US universities, in alphabetical order:

California Institute of Technology
Columbia University
Cornell University
Duke University
Harvard University
Johns Hopkins University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
New York University
Northwestern University
Princeton University
Stanford University
University of California, Berkeley
University of California, Los Angeles
University of California, San Diego
University of Chicago
University of Michigan
University of Pennsylvania
University of Texas at Austin
University of Washington
Yale University

I graduated from Oxbridge. Most people in the UK either don't know or don't care about 3/4 of the schools on this list.

But….the government of the UK does. So there’s that.

So wait, people actually think that all the other amazing colleges and universities are somehow "lesser" -- that the students everywhere else are learning something different and "less than." OR is it just about power and money?

This +1000. NYU and Northwestern are not considered prestigious.

Don't know what you're smoking. Northwestern is prestigious, full stop. NYU is prestigious to an extent as well.

Yes, but Northeastern is famous for gaming the system.

NorthWESTERN, not NEU, which has no business in this conversation. Stop trolling please.

Northwestern, Northeastern - what's the difference?

The UK government is not the one offering you a job, so there's that.

Then again if you’re already in the country with a work visa, you’re more apt to get the job. See how that works?

No, because for professional jobs, you don't get a visa to go to the country and walk the streets banging on doors for interviews. You should already have a job in hand and then get the visa.

All are 4 year R1 Research Universities.
One slight difference is that West VA is significantly less selective compared to UVA, Northwestern, and Northeastern.

The graduates of those schools aren’t banging on doors. It’s obvious that they are already in great demand, hence the automatic visa status. Why else would the UK do this? It’s much easier to get the job while you’re living locally and not abroad.

“ Rishi Sunak, the chancellor, said: “This new visa offer means that the UK can continue to attract the best and brightest from across the globe. The route means that the UK will grow as a leading international hub for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

“We want the businesses of tomorrow to be built here today, which is why I call on students to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to forge their careers here.”

Priti Patel, the home secretary, said: “I am proud to be launching this new and exciting route as part of our points-based immigration system which puts ability and talent first, not where someone comes from.”

I guess international prestige doesn't involve being ranked highly as an undergraduate school at USNWR.
