The American universities that BOTH Americans AND non-Americans think of as the most prestigious

I could get behind that. Add Georgetown, too.

Not really helpful info. It’s very general and lumps the world together.

Also, who cares about prestige? Yuck.

The UK open work visas was news to me so I found this post helpful. I have an IB diploma kid who likely will work outside of the US so this adds to my calculation of the value of paying to send my kid to one of these schools.

NYU and NW are NOT Elite/Prestigious in East Asian countries. They are mot even well known. East Asian American.

NYU is fine. Certainly similar to Northwestern or Berkeley in prestige. Particularly in Asia and for those in finance, it is prestigious.

Berkeley is much more prestigious in Asia probably top 5.

University of Washington?

Why?

For the generations of Chinese in their twenties and up at the end of 1970's when China opened up to the world, Georgetown is very well known. It was during a meeting with a delegate from Georgetown's SFS that the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping announced the "One Country Two Systems" policy for the future HK takeover from Brits and its government. I am surprised that all these years Georgetown had never done anything to commemorate this event, for academic, international relationship, diplomatic, political sciences (all are supposed to be G'town's strengths), plus marketing purposes, especially to Chinese and international education markets.

I don’t get University of Washington either - especially since the UK visa program omits top lacs which are more prestigious than some on the list.

NYU is prestigious and has some absolutely world-class top programs (business, arts, law, medical school). It doesn’t get much love on DCUM but it’s an amazing university.

This +1000. NYU and Northwestern are not considered prestigious.

This makes no sense whatsoever. I went to a women's liberal arts college and got a visa to work in the UK. You do not need to go these schools. It's not that hard to get a visa to work, not like the US.

Don't know what you're smoking. Northwestern is prestigious, full stop. NYU is prestigious to an extent as well.

You need to do research on this before you speak with such authority. This is a NEW visa scheme. These are visas WITHOUT having to have a job offer first. Offered to recent graduates and their families.

Huge international student body, though. The educate the children of wealthy elites in Asia, Middle East, and Africa. NYU has currency overseas, for better or worse, and a growing foreign alumni network.

Yes, but Northeastern is famous for gaming the system.

I am an East Asian actually from East Asia. Among the international school circuit and wealthier families with links abroad, Northwestern and NYU are definitely brand names, with the edge to Northwestern for academics.
