Keto person here who kept it off! You have to take maintenance as seriously if not more seriously than the losing phase.
1. Realizing that cheat days would lead to food cravings and need to be very structured. You actually can take a day off from no or low carb and not pack it n BUT it needs to be one meal and you need to stop afterward. I carefully choose what I am going to eat, eat it in a setting with built in portion control ie dinner out not trying to eat not half a bag of chips, most importantly I do an IF fast for 16 hours afterwards and low calorie, very low carb the next 24 hours. 2. Learning to cook a variety of low carb foods that honestly taste better than a burger with a bun or pizza. I didn’t like many of the food blogger keto recipes as they were unbalanced in flavor, gloopy, too heavy etc. I modify Thai food, use Korean techniques, modify Italian, lots of grilling and high heat. Figured out better vegetable combinations to use as bases etc. 3. Finding a few low or moderate carb substitutes for something you like with high carbs. There is low carb ce cream, pasta, bread or diet soda r low sugar chocolate out there. |
Increase water intake. Hydration and elimination, increase fiber. Carrot juice is life.
Crazy thing, you can lose weight riding scooters! |
how does one get Ozempic? Dr prescribed? What if one only wants to lose 10-15 lbs? |
Yes you need a prescription and hopefully no doctor will prescribe it for 10-15 pounds. It’s not for people to lose a tiny bit of vanity weight. Side effects are near universal and unpleasant at best. It’s also a lifelong medication to keep the weight off. Just not worth it for 15 pounds. |
OP here. So I'm going to start Mounjaro. Fingers crossed. |
wishing you the best! Let us know how it goes. |
I started Mounjaro today.
Fingers crossed. I have about 50 pounds to lose and am also pre-diabetic. |
Good luck OP! This is a good choice. |
How did you get it? Online doc or someone local? |
This is complete and utter BS. Our HABITS will do anything to keep us at our current weight. If I forced someone who was 135 lbs to eat an additional 2000 calories a day you can be they sure as hell they would gain weight. Just like If you force someone who is 100lbs overweight to eat 1200 cals/day they will lose weight. just look at my 600lb life. When they follow the Dr's diet they lose a ton of weight. Most gain some back when they start eating crap again. OP- it is all about creating a small but sustainable deficit. no fad diets, not starvation, but slow steady lifestyle changes. Start exercising by just walking, slowly increase the time you walk each day. For diet- track your calories. Everyone on here who can't lose weight says they don't eat "very unhealthy" but all food has calories and if you are 100+ lbs overweight you ARE overrating. You can not maintain that weight without consuming a significant amount of calories. Take your current weight and subtract 50 lbs. Now multiply that number by 12. This is how many calories you should eat to start losing weight. You can also just subtract 30 lbs for a smaller deficit. Or take both number to create a range. For example if you weight 250 lbs. Subtract 50 and 30 (200 and 220) multiply by 12= 2400-2640, this the the calories range you should eat in. Focus on eating protein and veggies at every meal and snack along with a serving of carbs and healthy fats. |
op
Remember losing weight and keeping it off is forever. Not to scare you but I lost 50 pounds and I have to be mindful or I will gain it all back. But that's ok because I am getting used to avoiding the foods that aren't so good for me and when I do indulge I exercise a little bit more. Sometimes it makes me feel not so great so then I don't want it. |
Got the prescription through Alpha and filled prescription through Amazon Pharmacy. Coupon applied (because United denied it) and then it was only $25. |
I am also 100 pounds overweight. I can't believe I'm writing that. But I am. And I have never thought about surgery or pills. I have to face the fact that I have to eat healthy and move more. I eat healthy 75% of the time, but its that 25% of treats and night eating and being lazy and watching one more episode instead of going for a walk. I'm not super motivated to stick with it. But I can't believe what the one poster wrote that my body will want to hold onto it unless I do srugs or surgery. That's simply not true. |
any updates? |
I've been on Mounjaro 3 months (just finished the 7.5mg does, moving to the 10mg dose next week). I've lost 13 pounds. A little disappointing, considering some of the other stories I've heard of dramatic weight loss. But about a lb per week, which is decent. I'll be curious to see what the next dose does. The appetite suppression is real and I do forget to eat some times. I never was a big eater to begin with though (I know, I know ... I'm fat, so I must gorge myself ... hardly). One surprising side effect that does appear to be fairly common is I don't want alcohol hardly at all. I have not had any of the nausea that some do. Worst side effects are tiredness and I'm a little achy. Not a miracle drug for me (yet!) but I'm excited to see the scale go down at least! But this medicine is a major PITA to get every month. I question every month if it's worth it for slower weight loss. |
