how many of us are secretly conflicted about this ruling?

Anonymous
I have never had an abortion, hope never to be in a position ti even have to consider it, and am 100% pro-choice and feel no conflict whatsoever.

To details - while some abortion may be emergency birth control that represents early abortions generally. Later abortions tend to be truly medical procedures not mere birth control, and are the most heart-wrenching decisions and scenarios you would never wish on anyone. That should be guided by medical professionals, not lawyers, judges, politicians, or me.

The rich will still get them.

The poor will try them with coat hangers.

This is why I am pro choice. But I am conflicted that it is something that is viewed as simply birth control by many. And there are states today that have legalized it until birth for any reason (not health of the mother). Colorado is one. And I do have a problem with that. The only thing that this does is force people to focus on the local rules where they live. In some places, the laws are too restrictive for my taste (banned outright, or even after 6 weeks) and in others it’s too easy (Colorado, NY). And since most people just took it for granted that the right would always be there, I think a lot of people have tuned out the rules in their local jurisdictions. So if there is a silver lining, people will now need to focus on it again where they live.

This is your own bigoted belief. No woman sees abortion as simply birth control. Those women that you think are “promiscuous” or poor (because let’s be honest this is who you mean) do not see something as invasive and life altering as abortion, birth control. Abortion is a last resort measure in the rare case of an unplanned pregnancy. No woman is having 2-3 abortions a year because hey it’s birth control. Seriously, you need to go to an abortion clinic and talk to women.

I don't understance this stance. Abortion is a form of birth control.

A woman is simply taking control of what she wants or refuses to give birth to. What is the problem?

Yes there is a problem. It implies that many women are careless and stupid and do not use other forms of birth control that prevent an unwanted pregnancy in earlier stages. Basically abortion of a fetus is their birth control of choice.

What on earth are you spouting about???

Abortion is simple one many forms of birth control.

Terminating a pregnancy is one of many ways women throughout history and around the world use to prevent them from giving birth. YOU think it implies carelessness and stupidity. I do not.

I don’t worship a male god. I see women as god. And gods are the first cause which mean they have the final say. Women are god who create life and can end it as well. I know that this is controversial for many women but for many others it’s not.

I am not conflicted about abortion AT ALL. I’m pro abortion and pro choice 100%. Canada and Iceland are two nations that have abortions up until the last trimester.

And prolifers love talking about babies are ‘blessings.’ If a baby can be a blessing then a baby can be a curse. The power of creation if the power of destruction. It goes both ways. This abortion debate is about the control of creation and taking a way women’s say in their own fate and destiny. Men make life and death decisions all the time and no one bats an eye.

What are you not comprehending???

Your statements are callous and really paint women as the heartless whores that so many republicans seem to envision women to be. Have you ever taken care of a medically fragile child? Have you ever had a friend or family member get the heart wrenching news that their unborn child will have severe medical problems, be in pain or not live past a few days if you give birth? Please interact with some of these people and then describe women as ‘taking control of what she refuses to give birth to.’

Not sure what you’re getting emotional about. Frankly, I don’t even know how you interpreted what I said.

I have special needs people in my family and all have told me they would have aborted had they known they’re kids would suffer for the rest of their life. None of them are happy. *shrugs*.

I don’t get emotional about abortion because I don’t romanticize motherhood nor babies. *shrugs*.

It’s pretty apparent that a lot of people are uncomfortable with women being the ones to have full power and control about life creation.

The power of creation was given only and only women! This makes women and even some women very very angry. Lololololol

A lot of people don’t like that we women were giving the full power to decide who is born and who is not.

This type of power given to women and only women gets people up in a frenzy. How dare women get to decide who’s bloodline they choose to decide??!?

If prolife people really valued life as much as they say they do then why does the world look and operate the way it does???

How can pro life people really believe life is a blessing in the current context of the world???

They only want to control what life produces and life force as well.

Sorry, I personally would never carry the bloodline of a poor or mentally ill man. Every bloodline does not need to be continued.

Pro life people always vote against interests of life. What a sham.

I am against abortion but wouldn’t deny others the right. I look at the SC issue as a legislative issue and I’m fine with it going to state rulings.

When I looked up the numbers, 93% of abortions are in the first 14 weeks. Not much will change for most people. I am perfectly fine teaching DC that birth control is most important and would prefer they use pill AND a condom. I would both rally and vote to maintain first trimester abortion and 100% for abortion pill and contraceptives. Would also vote to push for more support requirements for men/boys.

Still is not first on my list of voting issues.Though watching to make sure it is not a slippery slope. I will say as a mid-50 y.o. women, I never thought I would see this day. i also can’t understand how some state have such restrictive laws.

Agree. Well I would never get an abortion myself, I believe it is the woman’s right to choose. The rich will continue having them it is the poor that will suffer.

Conflicted? No. Because I think the lives of living people—including children— matter. My beautiful daughter who walks and talks and sings and loves to feed the doggie should not be left without a mother because a doctor let her mother die of complications from a miscarriage. Or an ectopic pregnancy. Or uncontrolled preeclampsia. All conditions that women in our family have survived because of legal abortion.

I don’t think so.

5 states (at least) only had 1 abortion clinic in their entire state before this decision. Were poor women using coat hangers then? Were they going out of state? Were they better with BC? Did the birth rate go up?

^^^^

Someone should research that.

An abortion should not be lumped in with condoms, the pill, depo, the ring as mere "birth control." It has 0% effectiveness at preventing pregnancy. Real birth control prevents pregnancy. They put these comparative efficacy charts in pamphlets with the BP pill. Abortion would be zero.

None. I understand perfectly that the rules of the game in a democracy are that I personally can feel conflicted, but I should legislate my religious beliefs on other people.
