Nannies are humans. Not subjects or property. What a disgusting post... i didnt know people stillchad the slave owner mentality. Very telling.

Ha ha! Huh? Whet the f did you get that?! The PP’s post is true with every occupation and no one is enslaved, drama queen!

As a mom who has multiple nannies, you won't find this. You need to accept that no one else is going to want to devote their life to you

Our nanny has been with us for 5 years

I'm a great employer. I pay very well, great benefits, don't micromanage. I have lost nannies to: pregnancy/wanting to be a SAHM, moving for spouse's job, retirement, and a physical health issue. Life happens. Would you stay in the same job for 10 years, even if it paid well? No, people have lives and lives sometimes necessitate a change to one's job. The idea that you a need to or can "keep" a nanny for a decade plus is frankly a little creepy.

Would love to know the longest any of the posters here have stayed at one job. Not one company, one job. I promise it's not 10+ years. This whole thing reeks of classism.

I have been a math teacher in the same school for over 25 years. Same classroom even. I finished my doctorate and still wanted to just keep teaching (not do administrative stuff).

+1. I’ve been a pediatrician in the same office for going on 18 years with no plans to leave for another 18 years at least.

My brother’s kids have had the same nanny for 17 years!

-1. I don’t find the desire to have just one nanny for my children’s childhoods the least bit creepy. I think it’s a wonderful gift for my kids. We’ve been very lucky with an older nanny for the last five years and have talked about her staying in full time even when the youngest is in elementary school.

You’re a strange person, PP.

+2. My dentist, family lawyer, veterinarian, gyno, and kids pediatricians have all been in the same job for over 20 years! The woman who owns the preschool all my kids went to has been in the same job for 15 years. My hair stylist has had the same job for over ten years. I’m a freelance writer and I’ve had the same career (all stories are different but the mechanisms are the same) for over 25 years.

And our lovely nanny has been with us for ten plus years with no plans to retire.

My congressman has been in the same job for 20 years and one of my state’s senators has been in their job for over 30!

All of those people own their own businesses. Do you not see the difference? They're not employees.

Not true. None are sole owners of their practices.

It’s strange to me that you can’t accept that millions of people do the same job for the same company/firm for their careers. And a nanny staying in one family for 10 years or more is actually not doing the same job since her charges grow and change.

No, I actually don’t see the difference. NP here and they’re all doing the same job. Just like millions of teachers.

Jesus, have you really gone through four nannies?! In how many years?!

That’s embarrassing, PP.
