I asked a VT mom about this recently and she feigned ignorance or at least claimed she’d never heard of it. I assumed it was a thing of the past.

Sadly it is not. DD took an exam there today. It's truly a depressing place. I think there are a few majors that actually have classes and don't have to go there so maybe that's why she didn't know.

I went to Tech and absolutely loved it.

^ Tech, not Math Emporium, which did not exist decades ago when I went.

+1 My son takes regular math classes at VT. I only know about the emporium because he's one of the tutors there.

Opened in 97, my freshman year.

Anonymous wrote:this is a horrible post, OP. Don't come here asking people to bash VA Tech to make yourself feel better. My kid is not going to VA Tech and didn't even apply, but if they were, I sure as hell wouldn't need you to put negative thoughts out there. Let me settle this for you - VA Tech is a great school by the accounts of many, many current and former students. Leave it at that!

+100
Why do I feel like OP is the usual troll?

I-81 can be dangerous driving, and if you are allowing you teen to do the drive, I'd emphasize not speeding. I had a classmate killed in a car accident on 81 one August on his way back to school. It was a wrenching way to start the year.

It's in the mountains and the fall is absolutely gorgeous. Oh wait, bad things only. Hmm.

I went to VT and loved it.

DP. Spring is absolutely gorgeous too. Took DC down for admitted students' day last month and we were just astonished at the beautiful greenery and redbud trees on the way. So, so pretty.

WTH?

This. 100%

We have learned to only wear maroon OR orange. No combining.

Can you please elaborate on why 81 is dangerous? Is it more dangerous than 85 or 95? I drive down to SC a lot and often wonder if I should try 1 to get a break from 95 85. I’m an ok but not great driver.

Not familiar with 85 but 81 is way worse than 95. Curvy, non lit, only two lanes, lots of trucks and everyone is speeding.

DD is a good driver, I let her to drive to W&M but I drove all the way to VT myself, too risky for her.

DP. W&M is also a dangerous route - 95? 64? LOTS of crazy drivers and plenty of trucks.

Are you kidding? It's one of the few schools that has more men than women (57/43). So many attractive, smart guys there.
