I would hate this.

FWIW, some people would consider that the best luck, not the worst luck.

As an adult, I have suspected I have (inattentive) ADHD but never have been tested. It got way worse during the pandemic and I asked a teammate of mine to do something like this app. So, even if it's an advertisement, I will most likely try it. Thanks for posting OP.

If you don’t get it, you don’t get it, and that’s OK. This is an established effective strategy for many people. Obviously, it’s not for everyone.

For those of you that would hate this, don't use it. But for many, especially those with ADHD (but even some who don't), 'body doubling' is a really effective way of getting stuff done.

So far, it hasn't been creepy. People keep conversation to the bare minimum. Like 30 seconds to say what you are doing and what you did at the end. And with mute on, it's not distracting.

I really like this idea. I'm writing a book and I think I will try it. Thank you, OP!

This sounds like an awesome idea. I'm trying it out this week. Thanks OP!

Sounds creepy. And could waste even more time talking to a stranger about their unrelated task!

OMG

So I promise, I do not work for focusmate, I had never even heard of it until I saw this thread earlier this week. I didn't even comment before (Jeff could confirm! I swear!) but it sounded kinda cool. I've been struggling with PPD, and while I'm doing a lot better, I'm still really struggling at work, and have kinda been coasting. My work doesn't have a lot of accountability, so it's been easy to basically do the bare minimum for the last five (!) months since I've been back from maternity leave. My job's not in danger or anything, but it makes me feel so crappy to be doing a bad job, as I do really care about my work. So I figured I'd give it a try.

I have this issue that's been hanging over my head since BEFORE my maternity leave - literally almost a year at this point. I dedicated my three free focusmate sessions this week on it - two 50 minute sessions and one 25 minute session. I just finished my third session and it's done. DONE. I can't believe it. A YEAR this has been hanging over my head.

It sounds so simple but this is changing my freaking life. The right thing at the right time, I guess. So OP, whoever you are - THANK YOU!

This is OP. I’m so glad this worked for you! That feeling of something hanging over you is so awful. And so easy to beat yourself up—why can’t I just do The Thing?! Using FocusMate and getting The Thing done feels so awesome!
Of course I’m on DCUM because I’m avoiding dealing with some financial stuff for my parents 🤦‍♀️

Time to get a session…

If you had ADHD, you would know that “doubling” is a productivity technique. This service provides a double for someone who doesn’t otherwise have one in that moment.

Great. It still sounds like something I would never want to do.

So don’t do it?

I have ADHD, and I’m glad OP posted this.

A friend has also found this very helpful, OP. She lives alone so doesn't always have someone available, this changes that.

I think I will give it a try and see how it goes. That it is free is quite welcome.

I’d just worry about scammers. But idea isn’t bad if one could be sure there’s some kind of vetting is being done.
