Ward 3 Candidate who doesn't want to de-fund/abolish MPD?

Anonymous
I am surprised to hear that both Frumin and Finley are in favor of reducing police funding. I've just looked over both of their websites and come away disappointed that there's no clear commitment from either to a reduction in policing. In fact, Frumin's campaign site calls for more police staffing.

I for one feel like we all owe a debt of gratitude to the folks who stood up in front of Trump's goons last summer and held on to our democracy when there were unmarked secret police at the ready; when they said "defund the police" they meant "defund the police."

Frumin has been waffling very hard on this issue (as he seems to do on all issues including housing and building more public schools in Ward 3). He wants to get votes, not actually lay out positions for what he will do as a council member. Frumin's articles on both policing https://fruminforward3.com/food-for-thought-public-safety/ and schools https://fruminforward3.com/food-for-thought-new-schools/ fail to take actual stances on the issues being covered. The only candidates who support a reduction in policing from my research seem to be Beau Finley and Henry Cohen, the 18-year-old Wilson High School student running.

Recognizing that the relatively well-off neighborhoods of Ward 3 don't need "help," I want someone that represents MY interests on the council, not Ward's 7 and 8 for the sake of equity. I suppose I'm looking for the most conservative (in a field of dems) candidate. Any help?

Well if you want conservative, Monash is a republican, so not very normal for Ward3. She switched to dem to run for this seat. Donated to pence.

She is also a strong supporter of abstinence only education when it comes to birth control.

I read the article. It doesn’t say she advocates for abstinence only sex Ed, rather to teach that abstinence is an option and wait until after high school. Makes sense!

What is her stance on abortion in DC? I smell a Republican plant ....

Obviously they already teach that, so what is she really on about?

NP. Do they “obviously” teach this? How do you know and what’s your proof?

I had high hopes, but they've been thoroughly dashed. As a previous poster said, that absolutely no one in our neighborhood is telling in retrospect.

Nothing is wrong with pandering to NIMBYs. NIMBYs vote. A lot of candidates are incorporating NIMBY views to get votes.

Don't nimbys live in the neighborhood being represented? You can pander Nimbys or Yimbys. If you live the neighborhood you should be heard by your ward rep.

ANC Commissioner Sauleh Siddiqui is an awful public office holder. He’s called his neighbors racist for supporting historic preservation and excuses the increasing crime problem. The only silver lining is that his re-election is very doubtful. His constituents have had it with his juvenile antics.

What is Frumin's favorite type of footwear? Flip flops!

Monte Monash isa democrat running for Ward 3. Was previously a Republican, but had vote for Hillary and supported other dems in the past. Positions in debates thus far have been moderate.

My read of Frumin's stance on this is that there aren't enough officers at the moment, but 4200 is too many.

It doesn't seem that hard and it isn't a flip-flop. Often times the questions in the surveys for candidates want yes/no answers that for questions that are not asked in a yes/no manner.

This is what he had on his website

No One is talking about defunding or abolishing the police.

Frumin only unveiled this platform after he flip flopped. He has been woefully lacking on policy until lately, when he seems to have commissioned people to draft his platform for him.

I noticed he also declined to participate in Street Sense's issue ranking.
