We once had reasonable School Board and superintendents who were leaders, not weak cowards with the demeanor of a used car salesman.

It's really up to the current School Board to clean up their act. They could start by hiring someone who won't be a punching bag for their nonsense.

And then the citizens can do their bit and throw every last one of these incompetent, hypocritical clowns out of office next year.
Amen. A very good summary.

I think it would be tough to get a bill through Richmond that would allow it.

On the other hand, it might also be hard to get a bill through Richmond that would extend the moratorium on the incorporation of new cities, which if I recall correctly is set to expire automatically in 2024.

Certainly if things don't change in FCPS there will likely continue to be declines in FCPS enrollment, driven largely by more affluent families pulling their kids out of FCPS.

People just paid 300k over list price for houses specifically because of the school district. They weren't planning on the extra cost of now going to private, so you can count them in as lifelong FCPS families.

Prices have never been higher in our neighborhood, nor has the percentage of parents sending their kids to privates. Lots of generational wealth changing hands, along with high incomes, gives people additional options. FCPS operates like it’s the only game in town and the declining enrollments tell a different story.

I still don't buy your argument. FCPS's overblown reputation is the sole reason people choose to live here and not in Prince William county. I think my coworkers (who are from other states) are crazy for being obsessed with FCPS and desperately spending their life savings to get into specific neighborhoods. But they come here from middle of nowhere so I assume they think 'bad' schools here are like bad schools from rural nowhere states.

People don’t buy in Prince William County if they don’t have to because they don’t want to spend their lives stuck in traffic on 95 or 66 coming from Woodbridge or Haymarket.

A frothing lunatic got up and opened her remarks by calling the school board members “Groomers” and went on to rant about communism and NAMBLA. It’s nothing but abuse and harassment. And these anti-Vaxx qQnon nuts are getting scarier and scarier.

Yes, these crazy parents are hurting our system. Did you see that woman had someone come up to film her and she directed her comments to America? All they want is publicity and politics wins. They have no interest in improving or working for our schools.

Actually, I was too busy watching Mrs. Meren rolling around on her chair; talking to and disrupting other SB members; and writing notes and sending them around the table (as did others) during the entire two minutes Mrs. Langton was addressing the board. If, in plain view, School Board members project such disdain to the message members of the community are trying to convey, one can only imagine the disregard that goes on behind closed doors to other concerns parents from FCPS have. No wonder Mrs. Langton keeps returning and submitting herself to the indifference of the School Board and to the disrespect of others who —like some of the posters here— believe their points of view are the only valid ones and everyone else who disagrees ought to be degraded, laughed at, or booed— as others in the audience were allowed to do that night.

Let’s hope the new superintendent sets the tone (or encourages the SB Chair to) for behavior expected of the board during School Board meetings. Unless there is a fire in the building, no note passing, no chatting, nor rolling around chairs should be happening when community members they represent are expressing their concerns, including those they disagree with.

We know why Mrs. Langton keep returning— she wants to be in the media. Her appearance on a Youngkin ad whet her appetite and she wants more. I saw her quoted in a Post article and on a good Morning America segment, so she seems to be getting what she wants with her abusive speeches.

+1
But oh, she's being cancelled! She's being ignored!

So why are you giving her more publicity on this forum, unless of course she's a convenient foil to deflect attention from the failures of the current Superintendent and School Board?

DP: OP brought it up--PP is just offering a different view on her.

I don't see OP bringing it up. OP asked if anyone knew who was among the finalists being interviewed to succeed Brabrand.

You want to divert attention by attacking Stacy Langton, about whom many things could be said, but one of which most assuredly is not that she's on the inside track to being named the next Superintendent.

Does this crazy lady even have children in the school system anymore? Isn't her kid that she wouldn't let read a scary book in his 30s and working for a PAC right now?

Previous posters brought her up — one by name - and I responded. I did not initiate the mention of her or use her as a “convenient foil.” Such delusions.

Right. No doubt your motives are pure, even if your focus is bewildering.
