Is Landon worth it?

It provides reasonably acceptable college placement and adult life business connections to kids who are strong athletes but not smart enough to survive, let alone do well at St Albans

So, yes, it serves a purpose to some families

You have to have the money, of course, and your kid has to really need the help that money can provide

Not all families would chose a religions school so its not a good comparison.

Landon will never lose its bad reputation. Wealthy families with boys behaving badly.

Says one person whose opinion really doesn't matter and certainly is not based on anything recent.

Why such an inferiority complex? How do you know that MA, CT or NY schools are all that? Don’t put yourself down so much.

Not an inferiority complex...just some non-DC biased objectivity. It's not Andover...or Exeter...or Groton...or Choate...hell, it's not even Deerfield ffs. It's just a private school in DC that DC insiders -- and only DC insiders -- care about.

Well, OK, PP. To take your reasoning one step further, the case can be made that any temp relocation to America is a hardship posting. After all, NYC/ Boston are not Paris, Vienna or London.

Andover is not Eaton and Exeter is not École Jeannine Manuel

SAIS and Fletcher School are NOT Sci PO

But, if one finds themselves forced to serve in the WH Admin or be in charge of any number of US Gov't agencies ( FBI, CIA, DHS, USDOJ ) or are a Pulitzer nominated journalist writing about some aspect of the Wash based power dynamic or just a influential partner in a long standing white shoe DC law firm, then STA is there to provide a great education for your son.

Provided they are smart and can do the work

Your DC could get kicked out as did Gore Vidal

No, we would not ever recommend Landon. As an earlier comment said, the toxicity runs deep and out of 60 kids in a high school class which includes Mr. Neill's own son, he doesn't know the boys names, save a few. Just want to get my son out and on to college.

I have heard they really have toxic mean spirited behavior toward kids who fall out of the "in" crowd.

This is false - lots of kids there who aren’t stellar athletes or sporty. Not everyone wants their son to go to St. Alban’s.

Let’s be real most STA students about 80% have been going since 4th grade out of Beauvoir. There have been students who have dropped out, been redshirted to a lower grade etc. One thing I like about Landon is that URM students you see them going to ivy’s in a way you don’t see at STA. Most of the URMs at STA are going to excellent colleges but I feel it’s super comparable across the board.

DS is very excited about Landon (admitted for 9th), but as parents we are struggling to see him there. He’s a bright and very sensitive kid who does well academically, likes theater and art. He’s not athletic and really has shown very little interest in sports at all. He has other options on the table but they are coed schools and he seems wedded to the idea of an all boys HS. Are we crazy to allow Landon to stay on the table?

Where else was he admitted?

Bullis, GDS, and Sidwell. He was WL at Prep and STA.

Seems mean to disallow his preferred choice now. Why did you allow him to apply and get his hopes up?

So not helpful at this stage, PP.

I would go to all the accepted student events and try to get him to see what the others offer compared to Landon. He has better options.
