This one confused me. I’ve been attending Landon games for years and haven’t noticed the faculty screaming at the students in any way that wasn’t appropriate. |
| Just signed off on the Landon contract so crossing my fingers DS is happy. |
Drunk parents? Bitter, table for one? Or maybe show me on the doll where the Landon parents hurt you? |
Other parrots? I think we know who is drunk... |
| Anyone who has been involved in youth sports has seen some pretty crappy parent behavior over the years. That said, when you witness it at a school where you are considering sending your child, it makes a bigger impact regardless of whether or not that parent's behavior reflects that of the greater community. We had a really negative experience at Landon (multiple parents were involved), and while I don't doubt that could have happened at Bullis or Prep or wherever, it happened at Landon so that's stuck with us. We did apply and considered Landon seriously, but that incident caused us to look a little more closely/carefully at the culture of the school than we might have otherwise. |
| Say what you will, but no other school has drunk parrots at their games. Big value add and the younger siblings love it. |
| Longtime Landon parent here. I have to say that I have never seen Landon parents behave in any way that would stand out in comparison. That being said, my sons don’t play the sport I think you’re talking about. |
| It was our experience at a MS level match against Landon that made us take it off our list for ninth grade admission. Parents, coach and, to a leaser extent, players. The culture was not what we were looking for. YMMV. |
Your DC most obviously was never involved in youth or travel sports because parents at those games are 10 TIMES WORSE than the Landon parents. I'm tired of people who obviously never applied to Landon yet continue to share untruths about the school, the parental culture and the students which isn't true. Parents within most of these circles cheer their kids/school on, but are rarely obnoxious. Collectively, my kids have been involved with private school sports (Big 3) and youth/travel programs for over 6 years now and we never encountered this. |
Wow. I simply said we witnessed unsavory parent behavior at a Landon sports event (we were there watching older DS who attends another school) which was a data point that stuck with us during the application process. I’m sorry you don’t believe that. Maybe it was a one in a million anomaly that we happened to see. FWIW—We did still apply for younger DS (and he was accepted), but ultimately decided to send DS elsewhere. |
Great, hope he’s happier elsewhere where the parents don’t attend as many sporting events. |
| Does Landon still have green slips? |

We have loved the experience for our son.
|
| Our son has really enjoyed Landon in the lower school. Academic rigor (more than we anticipated tbh), very communicative and caring teachers, and down to earth families. My son has made friends with kids who are artsy and kids who are very athletic and everything in between. Nothing but good things to say. |
