Emily has been my favorite name since I was 8. You bet I have an Emily. Timeless.

Erica
Erin
Carrie
Natalie

These are our top contenders and need a gut check! Last name two syllables, starts with a W. Thank you.

The only name I don’t really like is Erica. The others are fine with Natalie being the front runner.

Ask your DH. These are 1980s - 1990s names so ripe for ex-girlfriend/hookup similarities. Lol

Erin is not my style but hits that sweet spot of "not overused but everyone knows how to spell it and it's a real name".
Carrie is irksome to me (nickname, SATC, incomplete feeling) but agree with PP upthread that Kerry hits differently and would fall into the same bucket as Erin

How old are you, PP? The 80’s was 40 years ago! I have no clue what soap opera had a Susan and Erica.

Susan Lucci played Erica Kane. It's basically *the* soap name. I'm late 30s, my mom watched all the ABC soap operas.

+1. Except I don’t like Carrie unless it’s a nickname. Like one PP said, Carina or something sounds better. Erin and Natalie are solid names.

Erica - HATE
Erin - LOVE
Carrie - LOVE
Natalie - EH

Congrats and good luck deciding.

My friend's DD has the middle name Cary and I always thought that was cute. Though that could also be a boy, I think.

How Evelyn and Eleanor are considered fresh and Erica and Erin dated and ugly, I will never get (yes, yes-I know about name cycles, but honestly…)

Erica and Erin fit in just fine with a bunch of the other names in heavier rotation right now.

My daughter has a Kendra in her class

Evelyn and Eleanor sound vintage and charming, because most of us (millennials) did not grow up with anyone with these names. We did grow up with Ericas and Erins, whether they be peers/moms/family friends. People don't like giving their children the names of people they grew up with, which is why there are very few little Ashleys, Michelles, Jennifers, Jessicas, and Emilys.

I get your point but just wanted to say you’re wrong about there being very few little Emilys. Emily is still in the top 20 in the country as of last year.

I get Emily is still popular. It's just the least exciting name, especially for those of us who know hundreds of Emilys at every age.
