Yes, that's why I left after two years. So many people from small towns thinking they have to be b**chy to get ahead and think it's appropriate to judge people by what purse or watch they have. I wanted to live among people less superficial.

I choose my forums carefully. The food forum is great. The forums dedicated to age groups of different tend to be pretty good. I avoid the school forums and political forums at all cost. Beauty & fashion is hit or miss - some great stuff, but also some really nasty posters who don't appreciate that people can have different styles and opinions. When a thread starts to derail, it rarely turns nice again, so I bail when I start seeing people ragging on each other's choices.

3 At what age did you move to the DMV and why? Moved here at 24. Briefly left at 29 moved down south and then returned
4 Did you or are you planning to retire here? This is a topic of discussion as we are nearing the age. We have built a life here and it’s very likely we will stay. However cost-of-living is very expensive so it would be cheaper to leave. But then we need to build a new connections.
5 Does the tone on here bother you? yes and no. Yes because there are certain posters who just are mean, but I just overlook them and MoveOn. And no because there are also some very supportive posters who offer good advice.
