+1. But even that, haven’t you ever not wanted more vegetables but wanted ice cream after dinner?

Nobody cares what your KIDS are doing. Many kids do that as they often hate vegetables. Adults are not kids.

While I think it’s weird that you’ve apparently decided what “dinner…should” be — for someone else. Why not actually include fruit or even a fruit and cheese course as part of a “full dinner”?

This question is weird enough by my standards that I wonder if you and your DH have ever had a conversation about what to eat.

I'm not going to guess what fruit he is in the mood for. I'm not going to cup up apples then throw them out if he wants oranges. Seems pretty controlling to do that.
why can’t you ask him?

He can get it himself. Why would I ask him?

Because you asked us and complained about him. Maybe direct your communication his way instead?

I didn't complain. I did communicate with him and told him to stop eating fruit WITH dinner.

Weirdest thing I’ve ever read. HE.IS.AN.ADULT. You are not his mommy. He can eat whatever the hell he wants. OMG!

The OP asked was it weird to eat fruit with dinner. The answer to that is no.

For some reason, there is a select group of people who have weird, eating disorder level hangups about fruit.

I do not understand why do you think it is not ok? If not full completely, isn't it better to have some good source of other vitamins that you do need instead of eating some more potatoes?
Plus the fiber is awesome.

What I was going to say also: When we have dinner with Asian friends it's always followed up with oranges. Much better than my dh's option of ice cream right after dinner! (And no, I don't judge him...he can eat what he wants)

If you are still hungry, shouldn't you eat more dinner or veggies?

The answer to your questions, OP, is that 1) no, it is not weird to have dinner then in that same seating eat some fruit after (how have you never, ever done this before??), and 2) if you are still hungry, you should eat something that appeals to you, whether that is a second helping of the main course or lighter fare such as fruit.

When I find myself craving fruit, I assume that means my body needs something in the fruit. Maybe my blood sugar is low and I'm craving something sweet, or maybe I need some vitamin C. When my body is craving fruit, I don't want meat and potatoes. Generally the opposite. It's like a sign to stop eating meat and potatoes and have a banana.

Why are so many people on this website so rigid and weird about food? It would be different if he was being rude by refusing to eat the dinner OP prepared and eating something else instead. He's eating a snack! A healthy one. FFS.

I include cut up fruit at every meal I prepare. Mainly for my kids but tonight I opted for a couple of apple slices in lieu of a piece of cornbread. Wasn’t in the mood for more broccoli but still hungry. .

So basically you are one of the weirdos with the fruit hang up? And you are wondering how dare your DH eat an orange after dinner instead of more broccoli?

I have heard of fruitarians, but I have never heard of a no-fruitarian.

We eat watermelon with dinner in the summer. Sliced apples a lot in winter. Sometimes the same cycle of vegetables needs a break.
