Yikes - Kelly Ernby dies of COVID

J&J vaccine clotting also happened to women on BC, correct? We were so freaked out because we got our 20 something DC this vaccine and then started hearing of the bad news.

Yes, this was really bad. God knows how many more people will die because she infected them. You cannot be irresponsible with the lives of other people and rip apart other families. Must have compassion for others. This is such a grave sin on humanity.

why do you say that?

Omicron is milder, much more contagious, many people are asymptomatic and vaccine and booster will not prevent you from getting it. Delta is more dangerous and it kills, but vaccine stops it.

If she was unvaccinated, Delta probably got her and killed her. If she got omicron she probably would survived even if she was unvaccinated,

Omicron appears milder because so many people have prior immunity from infection or vaccines. It is definitely manifesting with more pulmonary embolisms and cardiac issues according to several HCWs. I am surprised that so many find this so surprising.

She was symptomatic according to reports that I saw - that she told friends she was very sick with Covid.

Kelly was opposed to COVID vaccine mandates and to other COVID restrictions (particularly beach closures in SoCal in 2020) throughout the pandemic. She was very vocal about those positions on Facebook and, no doubt, elsewhere. But believe me when I say that she was not a mindless Trump follower. She was smart, accomplished, and passionate. But ultimately misguided, and that has come with tragic consequences.

Kelly and I were poles apart politically and on COVID issues, but she was a good, decent person. Hard-working, committed to seeking justice for victims of crime (she was a Deputy DA in Orange County, CA), and genuinely compassionate. She was also loyal, had a great sense of humor, and was tons of fun to be around.

It's worth remembering that behind the public image of every "political" COVID casualty, there is a real person with family and friends. I am astounded that there are still people who refuse to get vaccinated (and Kelly was not vaccinated according to her husband, Mattias), but I take no pleasure if and when something terrible happens to those people. It's a tragedy every time. This one just happens to hit close to home for me.

RIP, Kelly. Gone much too soon. You'll be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. A cautionary tale that even the smart and decent people can be misguided. If you don't want to vaccinate, then I guess you just have to become a recluse and mask extremely carefully. You cannot be going to rallies with mostly unvaxxed and unmasked Trump supporters. The truly evil GOP anti-vaxxers are probably all vaxxed and stocked up on the expensive meds secretly.

Pretty, educated white woman with immense privilege and social power uses that power to encourage people not to do something that could result in their death or the deaths of people they know or strangers, but she’s ‘misguided’. 15 year old black kid who has been abused, neglected and forgotten by their parents and society and robs a store is a thug. Ok. She hurt people with the ideas she chose spread while in a position of public trust. I won’t mourn her for a single second.

Yup.

Maybe in death she can change the minds of some anti-vaxxers and actually do some good.

If only there are an easy, free way for her to prevent this.

I am glad that we are discussing this. We have it in our power to stop this pandemic. We cannot do it by being selfish and careless.

Thank you for sharing your warm personal memories. My condolences to those who knew and cared for her. Her death is tragic.

However, she was described as a local Orange County Republican Party leader and her last public appearance was at an anti vaccine mandate rally hosted by Turning Point, so I suspect that her politics had become more extreme right wing than you were perhaps aware.

Nonetheless, I’m sorry for the loss of Ms. Ernby.

Yes, she was a problem, and I don’t know if she was vaccinated or not, just that she was outspoken and I strongly disagree with her.

But yes, vaccinated people can develop blood clots and heart complications just as those who are unvaccinated can.

These threads shed a bit of light - and of course this affects mostly unvaccinated.

According to a statement from the OCGOP, Ernby died unexpectedly after what was described as a "brief illness."

So sad. RIP Kelly.

Soon to be followed by umpteen family and friends posting “this was so unexpected! We are SHOCKED! How could this happen??”

She may have been smart, but she made a very stupid decision about her health.

And willfully contributed to spreading misinformation during a public health crisis.

This is like saying that you can get food poisoning from fresh fish “just like” you can from fish that’s been sitting on the counter for a week. Perhaps technically correct, but grossly misleading.

I wonder why she chose not to vaccinate. Many people who oppose mandates are still vaccinated themselves.
