The next few weeks will be a mess trying to teach in person kids and trying to work with kids who are out. I’m going to have to keep it light for my own sanity. And I’m worried I might come down with Covid myself after being exposed to so many people at school. There are kids who eat in my classroom at lunch. What do I do - kick them out?

Thank you for being the kind of teacher who puts students first. Do your windows open? Wear an extra sweater and coat.

Nope. The last time MCPS shut down for 2 weeks, schools didn’t open again for 1.5 years. I don’t trust them to reopen.

I didn’t think anybody really believed in March 2020 that the closure was going to be for two weeks only. I guess paranoia comes with the inability to grasp the situation.

Agreed, and *technically* they did reopen, albeit virtually, after those two weeks, and made up most of the missed days.

You left out the part where they only taught half of what should’ve actually been instructed had the children been in person. But why let facts get in the way.

Just kidding!! I couldn’t be more thrilled! Another day for people to isolate and staff members to get better is great!

We have a close to a foot of snow here and I saw a half dozen cars get stuck on a. hill. It's the worst I've seen in years.

You must attend a very bad school. Our kids didn't miss anything.

You are being dramatic. There is no playbook on how to operate during a pandemic. No one knew a year and a half ago that virtual learning would be largely ineffective. We are building the plane as we fly. I am not sure there are any good options

Parents had a fit about virtual... next time think before you speak.

This is true. There are parents who will not allow their children to participate in virtual learning of any kind. There are parents who kept their children home the few days before break and would not come to school to pick up Chromebooks or curriculum materials.

You can use your own computer. You don't need an MCPS computer to do virtual.

They’re also holding a press conference at 8 am tomorrow. $10 says they have building closures to announce.

Well every entity that studied the school closures around world acknowledges that learning loss is real, documented and deeply felt across all grades. Ignoring that just proves you aren’t paying attention.
More importantly, what WAS learned is that the off switch is easy. But the ON switch with the BOE is broken beyond repair.

You don’t understand. There are parents who refuse to allow their children to participate in any type of virtual learning. As in, their child had to unfortunately quarantine (child was not sick) and the parents refused to have their child log into virtual learning with the rest of the class. It’s not about having access to a device. There are parents who are adamantly against ANY type of virtual learning. They absolutely will not allow it to happen.

My kids didn't have learning loss so if your kids did you were at a bad school or you/they were the problem.

Then that's on the parents and the parents are to blame. They need to homeschool or stop complaining.

Who is holding a press conference? MCPS? Oh boy! That is a very bad sign
