$12/hour for part-time nanny?

She wants some light housekeeping included for that price too. Are there really people working for that amount of money? She is a single mom so I get her finances are probably tight but based on her job, I'm sure she earns 80-100K.

She could absolute get a 12-13yo to play with her child for that rate… while she does the housework or works from home.

Three days a week on an ongoing basis? No.

+1

My neighbor has no problem exploiting people, while claiming to be Mother Theresa. Pays her help $10. an hour for 2-3 kids, makes the help wear a "uniform". Zero conscience.

I would laugh if it were not so sad.

Do you always refer to Nannies simply as “the help??”
You are mighty privileged I assume?

$12/HR is only going to be acceptable if your friend lives in Alabama or Georgia where the minimum wage has been $7.25 for the past decade.

She may be able to arrange a nanny share for that amount.

Please tell her rates are 25-30/hr. in this area.

People in Hell want ice water and your friend is an idiot.

You also should 100% be suspicious of someone who tales a childcare job for way way below market rate. Something isn't right there.

I agree with this. She is asking for too much given what she can afford to pay. I understand why she wants it but it just doesn’t exist. I don’t usually offer unsolicited opinion to friends but I would make this point to her.
