Aren't they're a bunch of right-wing nutjobs that hate public education and resent paying to educate the poor?

Your comment made me curious about the Parents' Coalition so I visited their website.

https://parentscoalitionmc.blogspot.com

This is shocking. Not the Parents' Coalition reporting, but if Wolfe actually did this it would seem more of a dictatorship than an actual voting board? OMG. This is crazy.

Dictatorship? Silvestre and Smondrowski changed their votes to yes. That was their choice.

Wolff would not go to the next agenda item until they did. She had already violated rules of voting.
It is called bullying.

But what would have been the negative consequence to Silvestre and Smondrowski if they just held firm?

They'd be vertebrates?

Good for the Parents’ Coalition! Parents and students in Montgomery County desperately NEED someone to fight against the ridiculous MCPS leadership and the BOE.

Thanks for posting OP. Yes, clearly MCPS is a mess.

+1 Thank you for posting, OP. I'm grateful that we have the Parents' Coalition to represent parent interests and act as an oversight organization. I have no idea why a PP called them crazy. It seems like they called this right.

What’s biased about telling the truth?

I think everyone can agree there are two major battling sides. Sometimes one side is right sometimes the other side is right. I want to know if there is any validity to what this blog is claiming.

I went to ask Kaitlyn Perez but she is taking a work break. I would like to see this covered in a non-biased way.

Sorry, don’t agree with your two battling sides. There are laws, polices and procedures. Follow them or don’t.

+1 Agree. Not sure how reporting the facts is biased.

I’m sure the school system would be vastly improved if the parent coalition were running things. Ya right!

Paula, is that you? Or did you get one of your minions to post? Paula, when was the last time you had a child in MCPS? It's time to let go, and move on

True! The Parents Coalition exposed all the mcps credit cards. If they were in charge these MCPS guys wouldn’t have just walked off with $600k.

Not sure who Paula is. I'm just a parent who is tired of MCPS and the BOE's lack of accountability.

That meeting was an utter embarrassment. The BOE has no idea what it is doing. And it is so clearly rubber-stamping whatever MCPS wants.

Yes, they are nutjobs. And per usual they, point out problems as opposed to proposing solutions. They like to finger point rather than work to solve problems. However, this time they are right.

Believe me, I am not a Parent Coalition supporter, just a parent who is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED with MCPS!

DP

I don’t necessarily see anything wrong with this. I appreciate someone bringing this information to the public.

I don’t necessarily expect someone reporting on the news to propose solutions. Isn’t that the job of MCPS and Counry leadership?

Parents DO NOT support more half days and closures. Students need instructional time to make up for the reduced instructional time during online learning. Many students, particularly students with disabilities, had regression and lost the momentum of progress they had before online learning.

I am not understanding why Central Office keeps putting forward plans for staff to work less. I sure hope Dr. McKnight doesn’t permanently become Superintendent if this is her idea of how to run a school system. OP is right - MCPS and the Board is a mess.

Three half days isn't going to impact instructional time. They need to use the time they have in school more wisely. Most kids who had issues leaning online didn't participate or even log on or do the work nor had involved parents monitoring things. So, MCPS slowed down the curriculum and punished the kids participating vs. failing those kids who didn't do the work.

Equity, but not excellence. Why can't we have both? Our kids and our society deserve both.

When does the Board ever question MCPS? At least some on the Board questioned why MCPS didn’t provide the normal notice for the request. But rubber stamping is what the Board always tends to do and it seems like some on the Board were surprised by the challenge and need to discuss an agenda item.

No more extra half days and full days off. MCPS is an embarrassment.

BOE never asks enough questions and when one or two board members try - it’s a very feeble apologetic attempt and get bullied and back down. No wonder mcps is run so badly. They need an independent auditor.

I know very little about the PC but the one thing I do know is that their #1 issue for a long time was an audit of MCPS finances.

Because MCPS has not shown itself to be capable to be fiscally prudent nor be willing to institute proper financial controls, I have to agree with them. This story should wake everyone up. We have incompetent idiots in control of billions of dollars with no checks or oversight and an unwillingness to even exercise oversight unless/until they are publicly embarrassed and shamed into doing so.

Pretty clear from the transcript of the exchange that the president of the BOE is working in cahoots with the interim Supt. This is very bad for the future of MCPS.

Have to disagree. This made perfect sense. You nutjobs just hate public education.
