Are strange pronouns/xenogenders normal?

My daughter just wrote she is "demigender" on her scholarship application, and then she got mad when I asked her about it. Is this a real thing? I have seen her use she/they before. Daughter is very into female aligned things, like makeup and dresses and nails and jewelry. Yet she identifies as demi-gender? I don't know if this is a good look to get a scholarship, and am kind of surprised that she would write this for some random admission counselor to read, but not say anything to her parents. I am very worried that she is doing this to fit in with her friends, who all seem to identify as gay. And I do not like, not one bit.
