Wife’s attempts to climb the social ladder and create a hierarchy are super concerning

This is a troll. No male would utter the phrase including the term "super". It's the new replacement for "like" and makes one sound like an uneducated 12 year old.

I find it weird in this day and age that everyone assumes that someone with a SAH wife *must* be male.

All people are racist to varying degrees.

If you are or were Christian, it sounds like your wife needs to invite Jesus back into her life and then humble herself. This is the devils work.

And now...watch people on this thread pop off about it too. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all b.c I like it here. It's chill and the people are nice. We have a cute historic district and the train. And Ashburn people stay far away

C'mon...Manassas absolutely sucks.

Sure 28 and Sudley road suck. But have you been to Old Town/Historic Dustrict. There are many lovely Antebellum homes. But sure enjoy your McMansion on a postage stamp. Or one of those town houses with no parking maybe?

She needs to get a job.

Sadly, this is what a lot of parents I know are like. (Mostly moms, but also a lot of the dads.). It's anxiety and boredom, but also social climbing. You need to be frank with her, maybe underscore the qualities you *do* like about her, and encourage whatever those qualities are/were. I really hate it when parents get like this.

Nah. They definitely exist. They're tedious and annoying af though. They manufacture drama because they are boring people and incapable of directing their time and efforts to more worthy causes.

OP, have a serious discussion with your wife. Her behavior is petty and nasty. It's extremely unbecoming. Your children will emulate it.

I really think your wife needs to be taken down a peg. She should go back to work. Perhaps she should also see a therapist over this obsession.

If she ever makes more nasty comments like that in public I would humiliate her publicly by apologizing for her horrendous behavior. She's being a B-.

What seems most concerning to me is what she’s teaching your kids. Horrible values that will turn them into horrid people.

She sounds awful. The one job as a parent is to teach your children to be kind to others and as inclusive as possible. She sounds like an awful person and a bad influence on your children.

This sounds exactly like some of the moms in my suburb. I totally believe this is real.

If I hadn’t lived through this as a child, I might not believe you, because all the people I surround myself with today don’t act like this.

But yes, emotionally-stunted, damaged adults like this do exist. They are deeply insecure with an external locus: they need to bring others down to feel good about themselves.

The good news is: if you actively fight against that mindset, your kids will come out of it untainted.

Agree that people like this do exist.

Agreed. I've met plenty in my UMC world.

She sounds awful

I really would not want someone like this raising my kids

Wow that is sexist. In my circle the men are equally or more sensitive to stuff like this than women. My wife is not as bad as the OP's wife, but I do occasionally see these traits myself.

My boss’s wife is a version of this. He is a high earner, they live in an exclusive area, the kids go to private school. She is a SAHM, Ivy educated, very vocal progressive. She is sophisticated enough to not disparage undesirable kids and families, but she does spend the majority of her time socially engineering the lives of her children to ensure that they are socializing and forming connections with targeted families. She is currently encouraging her middle school daughter to apply to several exclusive boarding schools because, and I quote “it will enable her to have access to a pool of the most eligible men”.
