Why I will always vote D — as a POC

I’m rich and in the highest tax bracket and don’t like paying so much in taxes but I’ll deal with it as long as D’s are in power and the racists aren’t happy.

Nobody should ever be "indoctrinated." People need to learn to reason, not be brainwashed parrots.

Sounds like OP has been indoctrinated. Dems have had the AA vote for 60 years and what have they done for them? The AA community is arguably no better off in that period of time, and in many aspects, worse off.

Well, let's put it this way....do the Dems want to eradticate AA's? Do the Dems want to ensure the AA vote is meaningless or non-existent? If it were up to the Dems, would we return to a pre-civil war status for AA's?

Because that is what today's GOP wants.

So to borrow Trump's phrase, the AA's can lose a lot.

- Republicans want the government to force women to give birth to unwanted babies. Democrats want that choice to be made by a woman and her doctor. Forcing women to bear children they don't want or don't have the means to care for perpetuates a cycle of poverty. At the same time, they object to comprehensive sex education and want to limit access to birth control, which could prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place.

- Republicans want to maintain or expand the use of fossil fuels and to deregulate environmental contaminants. The effects of this policy choice, in both the short and long run (i.e., through climate change) disproportionately affect communities of color.

- Republicans want to adopt/maintain regressive tax policy that permits the wealthiest among us and corporations to avoid paying their fair share toward a society that works for all. They are also opposed to allocating resources sufficient to enforce existing law (which already favors the rich!) and forcing these people to stop cheating.

- Republicans are against police accountability (civilian regulatory oversight and doing away with the doctrine of qualified immunity, e.g.).

- Republicans prefer to support health insurance company profits over ensuring Americans access to health care, e.g. through permitting thr government to negotiate drug prices.

I could go on. It has nothing to do with identity politics. There's not a single republican party policy I support.

By your post, you obviously are oblivious to what R policies are. You gave a nice rundown of Ds talking points of what Rs are.

Can you counter the arguments or policy definitions with something different?

Seriously! How could a black person ever vote Democrat after the Northam disaster? Damn I wish his wife had let him do the moonwalk! Lol. Democrats are such hypocrites.

Northam isn't on the ballot.

And ultimately, despite his past actions, he has been a good governor for ALL Virginians.

I understand where OP is coming from.

I am Asian American, used to be a R. Asian Americans used to reliably vote R in both the local and national elections, but not anymore.

And to people who think Dems have pulled the wool over our eyes, no, they haven't. I am fully aware of some of the more progressive policies that negatively impact Asian Americans.

I am not happy with the uber progressives, not at all. But the problem with the R party now is that it has been taken over by Trump, who is a RINO. They embrace white nationalists and are anti-immigrant, both legal and otherwise (a la Stephen Miller). Most Asian Americans here are either recent immigrants or children of recent immigrants, and many came here via family connections. The anti-immigration rhetoric from Trump (and yes, he did have pretty strong anti-immigrant rhetoric with his "why do we let in people from sh1thole countries and not places like Finland".. or whatever it was) really hit the Asian American community. Then there is the Ch1na Virus quip that didn't just impact Chinese Americans. Most Americans don't distinguish between a Korean American or a Chinese American.

Years ago, the R party would shut down anyone who was racist. It was unheard of for an openly racist person to run for a congressional seat with the backing of any cpacs. Now, it's a different story.

What good is having my kid be able to go to an elite university if the leader of this country fuels racism against people like my kids? I want my kids to feel welcome and safe in their birth country.

The only Asian American ethnic group that supports Trump to any degree are Vietnamese who still have ptsd from communist takeover, but the irony here is that Trump is also anti-refugee and many of these Vietnamese Americans were either refugees themselves or children of refugees. I grew up in SoCal and went to school with a fair amount of Vietnamese refugee kids back in the 80s. If Trump had been in power back then, those refugees would have to have gone elsewhere.

I'll vote for a moderate R locally, but if Trump runs again, forget it, and anyone who has his backing. Look at the VA governor race. The R doesn't want Trump to campaign with him. Now, why would that be?

+1. Well said. And, Youngkin might not want Trump to campaign for him, but he’s got the endorsement and backing anyway! Should help him in the southern parts of the state

Blacks, specifically African Americans, were placed in an awkward position to support public unions, which provided an entry-way to the middle class. Unfortunately these public unions are in direct conflict with the public they support, such as students. Failing schools faced no accountability. Rising crime faced no accountability.

Years ago, like the 1860's?

Because since 1965, the GOP has been pretty transparent in its racism.

You’re such a lying POS - most insidious BS I’ve heard.

Republicans of today are the party of disenfranchisement - ESP of POC - remember when they said the voting in Philly and Detroit were all fraudulent? Ya, that’s bc it’s mostly black people voting in those cities. Democrats protect those votes. Point blank.

Republicans of today are the party of Charlottesville, the party of racist immigration policies, the party, whitewashing history to pretend slavery ‘wasn’t that bad’ and the party of people like you.

+1 (well 2, with spouse) Early voted today.

Biden’s own Vice President outed him as backing racist policies during the primaries.

Cognitive dissonance is real.

Spare me your histrionics. Maybe you'll come to a better understanding from your house of worship, CNN?

"The typical Black American family is virtually no closer to equal footing with its White peers in terms of income and wealth than it was 50 years ago, when Civil Rights-era reforms were enacted to expand opportunity and limit outright racial discrimination."

OP-I am also a POC and I would have voted for a moderate Republican/some who is fiscally conservative depending on my choices. But the current GOP scares me because it does pander to racists even if not all members are racist.

You are full of dilutions and ill informed.

^ Unintentionally hilarious. You definitely sound like you should be lecturing people about being ill-informed.

IKR? I literally laughed out loud. Then I thought, maybe it was voice typing? I'd like to think so.

Lol. OP needs to check the current Governor’s past and think about it. I’m voting for Youngkin.
