I understand where OP is coming from. I am Asian American, used to be a R. Asian Americans used to reliably vote R in both the local and national elections, but not anymore. And to people who think Dems have pulled the wool over our eyes, no, they haven't. I am fully aware of some of the more progressive policies that negatively impact Asian Americans. I am not happy with the uber progressives, not at all. But the problem with the R party now is that it has been taken over by Trump, who is a RINO. They embrace white nationalists and are anti-immigrant, both legal and otherwise (a la Stephen Miller). Most Asian Americans here are either recent immigrants or children of recent immigrants, and many came here via family connections. The anti-immigration rhetoric from Trump (and yes, he did have pretty strong anti-immigrant rhetoric with his "why do we let in people from sh1thole countries and not places like Finland".. or whatever it was) really hit the Asian American community. Then there is the Ch1na Virus quip that didn't just impact Chinese Americans. Most Americans don't distinguish between a Korean American or a Chinese American. Years ago, the R party would shut down anyone who was racist. It was unheard of for an openly racist person to run for a congressional seat with the backing of any cpacs. Now, it's a different story. What good is having my kid be able to go to an elite university if the leader of this country fuels racism against people like my kids? I want my kids to feel welcome and safe in their birth country. The only Asian American ethnic group that supports Trump to any degree are Vietnamese who still have ptsd from communist takeover, but the irony here is that Trump is also anti-refugee and many of these Vietnamese Americans were either refugees themselves or children of refugees. I grew up in SoCal and went to school with a fair amount of Vietnamese refugee kids back in the 80s. If Trump had been in power back then, those refugees would have to have gone elsewhere. I'll vote for a moderate R locally, but if Trump runs again, forget it, and anyone who has his backing. Look at the VA governor race. The R doesn't want Trump to campaign with him. Now, why would that be?
+1. Well said. And, Youngkin might not want Trump to campaign for him, but heβs got the endorsement and backing anyway! Should help him in the southern parts of the state
